Job summary

Larsen & Toubro in Faridabad (Delhi NCR) seeks a Lead Designer for IP/MPLS Routing & Data Networking to design end-to-end networks for railway and critical infrastructure projects, including SCADA, CCTV, PA/PIDS, and signaling backbones.

You will develop network architectures, routing designs, QoS, security zoning, and documentation (NDD/DDD/ICD), and support FAT/SAT and field commissioning while ensuring cyber security compliance per IEC 62443/ISO 27001.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics & Communications Engineering, or CS/IT.
  • 10–15 years of IP/MPLS and data networking design experience.
  • Railway/metro/critical infrastructure projects experience preferred.
  • Vendor exposure with Cisco, Nokia, Juniper, Huawei, or Alcatel-Lucent.

Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end IP/MPLS networks for railway and infrastructure projects.
  • Create Layer 2/3 topologies including core, distribution, access, and data center links.
  • Prepare routing and switching designs and ensure high availability with redundancy.
  • Develop QoS, traffic engineering, security zoning, and network documentation (NDD/DDD/ICD).
  • Support FAT/SAT, testing, and field deployment; collaborate with signallers, telecoms, and system integrators.

Job Summary

The IP/MPLS Routing & Data Networking Designer is responsible for the design, engineering, configuration strategy, and implementation support of IP/MPLS-based communication networks for railway, transportation, metro, Semi high speed and High-speed rail Projects and critical infrastructure projects that involves supporting the FRMC S5G Radio System backbone. The role involves developing network architectures, routing designs, redundancy schemes, cybersecurity-compliant solutions, and technical documentation to ensure high availability, scalability, and reliability of operational and enterprise communication systems.

Key Responsibilities
Network Design & Engineering
  • Develop end-to-end IP/MPLS network architectures for railway and infrastructure projects.
  • Design Layer 2 and Layer 3 network topologies including:
    • Core networks
    • Distribution networks
    • Access networks
    • Data center connectivity
  • Prepare routing and switching designs using industry best practices.
  • Design high-availability and resilient network solutions with redundancy mechanisms.
IP/MPLS & Routing Design
  • Design and document:
    • MPLS
    • MPLS-TP
    • Segment Routing (SR-MPLS) (where applicable)
    • VPN services (L2VPN/L3VPN)
  • Configure and validate routing protocols:
    • OSPF
    • IS-IS
    • BGP
    • Static Routing
  • Develop QoS strategies for mission-critical applications.
  • Define traffic engineering and bandwidth management requirements.
Data Networking
  • Design Ethernet-based communication systems.
  • Define VLAN, VRF, subnetting, and IP addressing plans.
  • Develop network segmentation and security zoning.
  • Ensure integration of telecom subsystems such as:
    • SCADA
    • CCTV
    • PA/PIDS
    • AFC
    • Signalling systems
    • Data centres
Technical Documentation
  • Prepare:
    • Network Design Documents (NDD)
    • Detailed Design Documents (DDD)
    • Interface Control Documents (ICD)
    • Method Statements
    • Configuration Guidelines
    • FAT/SAT Procedures
  • Develop network schematics, routing diagrams, and rack layouts.
Testing & Commissioning Support
  • Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
  • Support Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
  • Review routing tables, failover testing, and performance results.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis activities.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
  • Implement network security best practices.
  • Support compliance with:
    • IEC 62443
    • ISO 27001
    • NIST Cybersecurity Framework
  • Design secure remote access and network access controls.
Stakeholder Coordination
  • Collaborate with:
    • Signalling teams
    • Telecom teams
    • System integrators
    • Customers and consultants
  • Review vendor proposals, technical submittals, and design deliverables.
Required Qualifications

Experience
  • 10–15 years of experience in IP/MPLS and data networking design.
  • Experience in railway, metro, transportation, utility, or critical infrastructure projects preferred.
