Role Summary

We are hiring Engineering Managers to join our Digital Engineering organization. This is a generalist engineering leadership role with strong backend depth, responsible for leading teams building and operating business-critical digital products across multiple brands and markets. Depending on assignment, the role may span backend services and APIs as well as web and mobile delivery.

Responsibilities

• Platform & Service Ownership (Backend-First, Full-Stack Aware)
• Own one or more core platform domains (e.g., ordering, catalog/menu, pricing, payments, loyalty, customer identity, integrations, CMS) delivered via APIs and services.
• Drive end-to-end accountability across architecture, delivery roadmap, quality, and production reliability.
• Lead system design and architectural trade-offs (latency, resiliency, data consistency, cost, security, time-to-market).
• Establish and evolve service contracts (API standards, versioning, backward compatibility), integration patterns, and domain boundaries.
• Improve performance and availability through pragmatic engineering practices (profiling, caching, DB tuning, queueing/eventing where appropriate).
• Ensure predictable releases and operational readiness (zero/low downtime deployments, feature flags, progressive rollout, rollback strategy).
• Engineering Leadership & Team Effectiveness
• Lead and scale a cross-functional team (Backend, Web, Mobile, QA, DevOps/SRE, Tech Leads as applicable).
• Build a high-performance culture: clear ownership, delivery discipline, quality mindset, and continuous improvement.
• Coach and grow engineers through regular feedback, career development, mentoring, and performance management.
• Partner with Talent Acquisition and peers to hire strong backend engineers (and full-stack/mobile talent when needed).
• Create team clarity via planning rituals, capacity management, prioritization, and engineering excellence standards.
• Delivery, Reliability, and Operational Excellence
• Own delivery outcomes: scope definition, estimation, sequencing, risk management, dependency management, and stakeholder alignment.
• Ensure high engineering quality: automated testing strategy, code review discipline, CI/CD hygiene, and secure-by-default patterns.
• Drive observability maturity: SLI/SLO alignment, logging/metrics/tracing, alerting quality, incident response, and post-incident learning (RCA).
• Partner with SRE/Platform teams to meet availability, latency, and scalability targets for peak events and business cycles.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
• Collaborate with Product, Brand/Commercial teams, Operations, Finance, Security, and external partners to align on priorities and delivery.
• Communicate trade-offs clearly, including options, impacts, timelines, and cost/risk implications.
• Influence technical direction through proposals that balance business outcomes and long-term platform health (including tech-debt strategies).

Qualifications

• 12+ years of overall experience with 3–5+ years in engineering leadership/management roles.
• Strong backend engineering foundation: service architecture, API design, data modeling, distributed systems fundamentals.
• Experience leading teams building production-grade, high-availability systems (microservices and/or modular service architectures).
• Proven ability to deliver across multiple stakeholders and competing priorities in a product environment.
• Solid understanding of cloud and modern ops practices (Azure/AWS/GCP fundamentals, CI/CD, observability, security basics).
• Strong communication skills: can translate between engineering detail and business outcomes.
• Technical exposure (expected at architectural level; hands-on is a plus):
• Backend: Node.js or similar backend stacks, REST/GraphQL, asynchronous patterns (queues/events), caching, relational + NoSQL basics.
• Web/Mobile: ability to manage delivery across React-based web and native or cross-platform mobile stacks (iOS/Android/Flutter/React Native).
• Data & integration: third-party APIs, aggregator/partner integrations, idempotency, retries, reconciliation patterns.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in consumer digital platforms (QSR, retail, e-commerce, marketplaces, logistics).
• Experience leading distributed teams across geographies/time zones.
• Experience with multi-tenant, multi-brand, multi-market platforms and complex integration ecosystems.
• Familiarity with compliance/security practices relevant to consumer platforms and payments.
