Job summary

Nutanix is seeking a design engineer with 3–6 years in switchgear product design to lead cost-out initiatives, NPI/Sustaining projects and cross-functional collaboration. You will work on contactors, switch disconnectors, and breakers, handling design iterations, testing, and compliance per IEC/UL/CSA norms.

The role requires strong GD&T, material science knowledge, and proficiency in 2D/3D CAD tools. You will engage with global stakeholders to ensure robust, compliant solutions.

Qualifications

• BE/ MTech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• 3-6 years of product design experience in switchgear or related electrical equipment.
• Experience with NTI/ NPI/ Sustaining projects in contactors, switch disconnectors or breakers.

Responsibilities

• Perform cost-out / VAVE activities for contactors, switch disconnector, breakers, and related products.
• Conduct current path, mechanism design and arc quenching analyses.
• Apply GD&T, clearance & creepage calculations and material selection for plastics.
• Develop 2D drawings and 3D models (UG-NX/SolidWorks) and prepare test plans per IEC/UL/CSA standards.
• Execute tests (EN60947 / UL60947) and analyze results for root cause and corrective actions.
• Support design reviews, DFMEA, reliability predictions and test reporting.
• Collaborate with global teams and manage changes through Change Management.

What you’ll do:" Work on cost-out projects for Low Voltage Switchgear products: Contactor/ Switch Disconnector/ Motor Protection Circuit Breaker/ Push buttonsWork with global stakeholders for project execution through idea generation, design, testing and implementation phaseEnsure product compliance to global design standards like IEC,UL,CSA, NEMA or any other compliance standard.Complete system / component sizing, designing , simulation and testing activities to meet Low Voltage Switchgear requirementsModify existing products to support customer, manufacturing, applicable regulatory and industry standard, and market requirement through Change Management process""- Should have worked on Cost-out/ VAVE projects for Contactors, Switch Disconnector, Breakers etc or similar productsExperience in current path design, mechanism design and arc quenching principlesKnowledge of plastic material, their use based on properties and requirement. Should be conversant with GD&T principles and clearance & creepage calculationsExperience of different manufacturing processes pertaining to contacts and plastic material (Bending, riveting , welding , brazing , injection molding)Knowledge of low voltage switchgear standards in accordance to IEC/UL/CSA/CCC codes which will allow development of test plans.Experience in execution of tests for EN60947 / UL60947 ( Temperature rise , Short circuit , Make/Break, sequence tests etc.)Assess test results, perform root cause analysis through test findings/failures and take corrective/preventive actionsResponsible for design engineering analysis on current path, mechanism, spring, bimetals, housing, actuator circuit , arc chamber, coils etc.Review reliability predictions, conversant with Design Failure Modes and Effects analysis (DFMEA) and read structural/thermal/CFD/MBD resultsComplete design (2D drawings / 3D Models) in UG-NX or Solid works.Knowledge on PLM systems ( Enovia , SAP) will be desirableShould have an innovation mindset"Qualifications:BE / M.tech - Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering3-6 yrs.
