Job summary

Eaton Corporation in Pune is seeking a design-focused engineer for LV switchgear development, including breakers, contactors, and accessories. You will drive magnetic coil and CBCT design, apply PDMC practices, and ensure compliance with IEC/UL/CSA standards throughout the product development cycle.

Your role involves detailed 2D/3D design in Creo, DFMEA awareness, and collaboration across global teams to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions for new product introductions and sustaining

Qualifications

• BE or MTech in Electrical Engineering is required.
• 6-9 years of product design experience in switchgear or related field is expected.
• Experience with NPI/Sustaining projects and DFMEA is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design LV switchgears (breakers, contactors, switch disconnectors) to meet customer requirements and targets.
• Complete sizing, simulation, and testing validation through to industrialization.
• Design parts with manufacturing in mind (injection molding, sheet metal, casting, tooling).
• Own subsystems and ensure compliance with IEC/UL/CSA/CCC standards.
• Modify existing products through Change Management to meet requirements.
• Review test results and perform root-cause analysis to implement corrective actions.

Job description

What you’ll do:

We are seeking a motivated individual with strong skills in magnetic coil design, CBCT design and mechanism design for the new product development of Low Voltage (LV) switchgears, including breakers, contactors, switch disconnectors, auxiliary contacts, and accessories. Success in this position requires effective collaboration, a strong drive to achieve project objectives, and the ability to learn new techniques, tools, and processes for the product development cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop LV switchgears (AC and DC rated breakers, contactors, switch disconnectors, auxiliary contacts, and accessories) to meet customer requirements, cost targets, and market-related technology.
• Complete system/component sizing, designing, simulation, and testing validation to industrialization.
• Design parts and products considering design for manufacturing and assembly, applying thorough understanding and experience of plastic injection molding, sheet metal, casting, machining processes, and tooling considerations.
• Take technical ownership of subsystems or modules of the project, ensuring product compliance with global standards like IEC60947, IEC60898, or other relevant compliance standards.
• Modify existing products to support customer, manufacturing, regulatory, and market requirements through the Change Management process.

• Experience in Research/NPI/Sustaining projects for breakers (MCB, RCBO), contactors, switch disconnectors, or similar products.
• Expertise in magnetic coil design, CBCT coil design, plastic and sheet metal part design and system integration.
• Experience in magnetic system & CBCT/PMR design for breakers product.
• Knowledge and experience with plastic materials, their properties, and requirements.
• Proficiency in GD&T principles and clearance & creepage calculations.
• Experience with various manufacturing processes for contacts and plastic materials (bending, riveting, welding, brazing, injection molding).
• Knowledge of low voltage switchgear standards in accordance with IEC/UL/CSA/CCC codes, enabling the development of test plans.
• Experience in executing tests for IEC60947, IEC60898 & IEC 61009-1 (temperature rise, short circuit, make/break, sequence tests, etc.).
• Assess test results, perform root cause analysis through test findings/failures, and implement corrective/preventive actions.
• Review reliability predictions, and be conversant with Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and structural/thermal/CFD/MBD results.
• Complete detailed design (2D drawings/3D models) in Creo.
• Knowledge of PLM systems (Enovia, SAP) is desirable.
• Support Creation of new designs and advanced methodologies to support the Technical Roadmap of the organization.
• Review Supplier Document Requirements List documents based on product requirements, customer specifications or industry standards like IEC, NEMA etc.,.
• Review, design proposals and documentation required to define & control products.
• Participate in design reviews, both customer and internal as required.
• Should have an innovative mindset with a proven track record of innovation and product launches.

Skills:

• Experience in the switchgear industry, having worked on NTI/NPI/Sustaining projects for MCB, MCCB, RCBO, contactors, switch disconnectors, motor protection circuit breakers, or similar products.
• In-depth knowledge of magnetic system & CBCT/PMR design, sheet metal, material selection and manufacturing processes.
• Experience in CBCT/PMR design, magnetic system design for breakers product
• Thorough understanding of IEC/IEEE standards, UL certification, 3D modeling, PLM, and ERP systems.
• Experience working with cross functional teams within and outside organization to drive design objectives in sustaining products
• Experience through all stages of the propduct development cycle
• Experience in deploying DFSS tools for robust design.
• Engineering technical expertise to solve problems and make design recommendations
• Proficient in CAD and PLM softwares
• Knowledge in Agile ProLaunch and PreLaunch processes
• Extensive experience with product design, sustenance, cost reduction.
• Experience in test object requirements, plan for assembly and finalize test parameters & instrumentation
