Job summary

Eaton Corporation in Pune, India seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop 3D models and 2D drawings for LV switchgear components and assemblies. You will support plastic molding, sheet metal design, and product development through collaboration and documentation.

Candidate should have BE Mechanical with 4–6 years of experience, knowledge of GD&T, ENOVIA, UG-NX, and SolidWorks, and familiarity with IEC/UL/CSA/CCC standards. Willingness to learn and contribute to launch readiness is essential.

Qualifications

  • B.E. Mechanical is required, 4–6 years of experience in design of LV switchgear assemblies.
  • Experience with plastic injection molding, sheet metal components, and tooling preferred.
  • Familiarity with IEC/UL/CSA/CCC standards and GD&T principles.

Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D models and 2D drawings for components, sub-assemblies, and assemblies for NPI, Sustaining and NTI projects.
  • Support design reviews, tolerances, and manufacturability analyses to meet cost targets.
  • Assist in system sizing, simulation, testing, and validation through to industrialization.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers on product development and documentation, ensuring compliance to IEC& UL 60947.

Job description

What you’ll do:

Position’s main focus will be development of 3D models and 2D drawings of components , sub-assemblies and assemblies to support NPI , Sustaining and NTI projects.

"We are seeking a motivated individual to support the development and maintenance of Low Voltage (LV) switchgears, with a strong focus on Motor protection Circuit Breakers (MPCB), Switch Disconnector, Contactor and Accessories. Should able to do plastic molding and sheet metal design efficiently, contributing to product development through collaboration, documentation, and technical support. This role requires a willingness to learn new tools and processes while supporting senior engineers in achieving project goals."

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support design and development activities for LV switchgears ensuring alignment with customer requirements, cost targets, and market expectations.
  • Assist in system/component sizing, simulation, testing, and validation processes through to industrialization.
  • Contribute to part and product design with a focus on manufacturability and assembly, applying knowledge of plastic injection molding, sheet metal, and tooling.
  • Provide support in engineering analysis of arc chambers, current paths, and contacts to aid robust product development.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and leads to ensure product compliance with global standards such as IEC& UL 60947 and other relevant standards.
  • Should have good experience on drawing creation, practitioner of GD&T and Enovia implementation.

Skills:
  • Contribute to design and development activities for LV switchgear products, including mechanism design, plastic and sheet metal components, and system-level integration.
  • Apply GD&T principles and perform clearance and creepage distance evaluations in line with product safety standards.
  • Support material selection and design optimization using knowledge of plastic properties and metallic contact materials.
  • Participate in product testing aligned with IEC/UL/CSA/CCC standards, including EN60947 / UL60947 test protocols (e.g., temperature rise, short circuit, make/break).
  • Assist in test execution, analyze results, and contribute to root cause investigations and corrective actions for failures.
  • Collaborate on detailed 3D modeling and 2D drafting using tools like UG-NX and SolidWorks.
  • Engage in design validation through DFMEA, and review simulation outcomes from thermal, structural, CFD, or MBD analyses.
  • Gain exposure to manufacturing processes such as injection molding, riveting, welding, brazing, and metal forming.
  • Work with PLM systems (e.g., Enovia, SAP) for design release and change management.
  • Demonstrate a problem-solving mindset and a willingness to learn from experienced team members while contributing to product innovation and launch readiness.
