Job summary

Qualifications

  • BE/M.Tech – Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering; 7–10 years of product design.
  • Experience in switchgear industry with NTI/NPI/Sustaining projects.
  • Proficient CAD/PLM skills and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience in short-circuit / temperature rise / arc tests per IEC/UL.
  • Hands-on design engineering analysis and problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Work with global stakeholders for project execution from idea to testing and implementation.
  • Technical ownership of projects; ensure compliance with IEC/UL/CSA/NEMA and other standards.
  • Complete system sizing, design, simulation, and testing for LV switchgear.
  • Modify products to meet customer, manufacturing, and regulatory requirements via Change Management.
  • Support creation of new designs and advance the Technical Roadmap.
  • Review reliability, DFMEA, and CFD/MBD results; participate in action teams.

Job description

What you’ll do

We are looking for motivated professionals with strong skills in Cost-out development for Low Voltage Switchgear products: Contactor/ Switch Disconnector/ Motor Protection Circuit Breaker/ Push buttons. Success in this position requires the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment, strong motivation for pursuing project objectives, and the ability to learn new techniques, tools, and processes.

  • Work with global stakeholders for project execution through idea generation, design, testing, and implementation phase.
  • Technical ownership of the project; ensure product compliance with global design standards like IEC, UL, CSA, NEMA, or any other compliance standard.
  • Complete system/component sizing, design, simulation, and testing activities to meet Low Voltage Switchgear requirements.
  • Modify existing products to support customer, manufacturing, applicable regulatory, and industry standards, and market requirements through the Change Management process.
  • Have worked on Cost-out/VAVE projects for Contactors, Switch Disconnector, Breakers, etc.
  • Experience in current–path design, mechanism design, and arc quenching principles.
  • Knowledge of plastic material based on properties and requirements; conversant with GD&T principles and clearance & creepage calculations.
  • Develop test plans for short circuit, temperature rise, arc path in accordance with IEC/UL standards; create test object requirements, plan for assembly, and finalize test parameters & instrumentation. Responsible for conducting tests by ensuring deployment of standard practices; assess test results, root‑cause analysis through test findings/failures, and take corrective/preventive actions.
  • Support creation of new designs and advanced methodologies to support the Technical Roadmap of the organization.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes pertaining to contacts and plastic material (bending, riveting, welding, brazing, injection molding).
  • Knowledge of low‑voltage switchgear standards in accordance with IEC/UL/CSA/CCC codes to develop test plans.
  • Experience executing tests for EN60947/UL60947 (temperature rise, short circuit, make/break, sequence tests, etc.).
  • Assess test results, perform root‑cause analysis through test findings/failures and take corrective/preventive actions.
  • Responsible for design engineering analysis on current path, mechanism, spring, bimetals, housing, actuator circuit, arc chamber, coils, etc.
  • Review reliability predictions; conversant with DFMEA and review of structural/thermal/CFD/MBD results.
  • Modify existing products to support customer, manufacturing, applicable regulatory and industry standards, and market requirements.
  • Participate in multi‑discipline concurrent development and corrective action teams.
  • Perform a wide variety of engineering and technical tasks involving the application of engineering knowledge and development of solutions to complex problems pertaining to products, materials, manufacturing processes, tests, and unique customer applications.
  • Provide formal and informal updates to Engineering Manager and Program Manager; participate in preparation for design review material.
  • Complete design (2D drawings / 3D models) in UG‑NX or SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of PLM systems (Enovia, SAP) desirable.
  • Have an innovation mindset.
Qualifications

BE/M.Tech – Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering; 7–10 years of product design.

Skills
  • Experience in switchgear industry having worked on NTI/NPI/Sustaining projects for Contactor, Switch Disconnector, Motor Protection Circuit Breaker or similar products. Experience in VAVE projects is an advantage.
  • Experience working with cross‑functional teams within and outside the organization to drive design objectives in sustaining products.
  • Experience through all stages of the product development cycle.
  • Experience in short circuit, temperature rise, arc test in accordance with IEC/UL standards.
  • Hands‑on experience in product development leveraging DfX methodology.
  • Engineering technical expertise to solve problems and make design recommendations.
  • Proficient in CAD and PLM software.
  • Knowledge in Agile ProLaunch and PreLaunch processes.
  • Experience in product costing and analyzing cost break‑up due to various manufacturing processes/design features.
  • Experience in test object requirements, assembly plan, and finalizing test parameters & instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of electromechanical systems.
  • Team player, good communication skills, ability to work in global and virtual environment.
