Job summary

Eaton in Pune, India, seeks a mechanical design engineer to develop concepts, 3D models and 2D drawings for busbar systems and enclosures. You will size copper busbars, design sheet metal parts, and support NPI and Sustaining projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical required.
  • 4–6 years of hands-on design experience in mechanical engineering roles.
  • Experience with copper busbars, sheet metal parts and product industrialization.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61439 standards and related testing is preferred.

Job Description:
What you’ll do:

Position’s main focus will be development of concepts, 3D models and 2D drawings of components , sub-assemblies and assemblies, and busbar sizing to support Sustaining and NPI projects.

We are seeking a motivated individual to support the development and maintenance of Low Voltage Systems and Enclosures. Candidate should be able to do copper busbar sizing and sheet metal concept design efficiently, contributing to product improvements and development through collaboration, industrialization, documentation, and technical support. This role requires a willingness to learn new tools and processes while supporting senior engineers in achieving project goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support design and development activities for Low Voltage Systems and Enclosures — ensuring alignment with customer requirements, cost targets, and market expectations.
  • Assist in busbar sizing and sheet metal concept development, testing, and industrialization.
  • Contribute to part and product design with a focus on manufacturability and assembly, applying knowledge of copper busbar, sheet metal, and tooling.
  • Provide support in engineering analysis of pannels and enclosures to aid robust product development.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and leads to ensure product compliance with global standards such as IEC 61439 and other relevant standards.
  • Should have strong experience on drawing creation, practitioner of GD&T and PLM process implementation.
Qualifications:

B.E. Mechanical

4 to 6 years of experience

Skills:
  • * Contribute to design improvement and development activities for Low voltage Systems and Enclosure, including copper busbar and sheet metal components, and system-level configurations.
  • Apply GD&T principles and perform clearance and creepage distance evaluations in line with product safety standards.
  • Support material selection and design optimization using knowledge of copper properties and sheet metal manufacturability.
  • Participate in product testing aligned with IEC 61439 standards (e.g., temperature rise, short circuit etc).
  • Assist in test execution, analyze results, and contribute to root cause investigations and corrective actions for failures.
  • Strong experience of 3D modeling and 2D drafting using Creo Direct tool.
  • Engage in design validation through DFMEA.
  • Work with PLM systems (e.g., Model Manager, SAP) for design release and change management.
  • Demonstrate a problem-solving mindset and a willingness to learn from experienced team members while contributing to product industrialization and launch readiness.
