Qualifications

Detailed Job Description

As an Engineer II – Software Test at FTP Tech in Hyderabad, you will take direct responsibility for executing rigorous protocol and system-level testing across next-generation 5G and LTE modem chipsets. Your daily responsibilities will span setting up and configuring network simulators, executing complex test cases across physical layer (PHY), medium access control (MAC), and radio resource control (RRC) layers, and conducting exhaustive failure analyses. Operating in a collaborative engineering environment at KRC Tower, you will work closely with software development, systems integration, and global validation teams to reproduce bugs, analyze radio logs, and troubleshoot protocol anomalies. Furthermore, you will develop and maintain automated test scripts using Python or Perl to accelerate regression testing cycles and enhance verification coverage.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute comprehensive system-level testing, protocol validation, and feature verification for 5G and LTE modem software.
• Configure, operate, and maintain network simulator test beds (e.g., Keysight, Rohde & Schwarz, Anritsu) for lab-based RF testing.
• Test and validate protocol behavior across PHY, MAC, and RRC layers in accordance with 3GPP wireless standards.
• Analyze modem logs, trace files, and air interface messages to perform root-cause failure analysis and debugging.
• Develop, optimize, and execute automated test scripts using Python or Perl to drive continuous regression testing.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with firmware developers, systems engineers, and global validation teams to resolve complex defects.
• Validate interoperability and performance benchmarks across diverse wireless network scenarios and band combinations.
• Maintain detailed technical test reports, defect tracking records, and verification traceability matrices.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 3 to 6+ years of professional software testing and validation experience in the cellular wireless industry.
• Strong, hands-on professional experience in 5G NR and LTE modem testing and protocol stack validation.
• Deep theoretical and practical knowledge of 3GPP protocols across Physical (PHY), Medium Access Control (MAC), and Radio Resource Control (RRC) layers.
• Proven expertise in network simulator test bed setup, RF configuration, call box operation, and protocol log debugging.
• Demonstrated programming proficiency in Python or Perl scripting for test automation and log parsing.
• Strong failure analysis, troubleshooting, and analytical problem-solving skills in embedded wireless environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective cross-team collaboration in Hyderabad.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Prior professional experience working on Qualcomm chipset validation or Tier-1 semiconductor/modem test teams.
• Exposure to legacy cellular technologies including WCDMA and GSM network protocols.
• Familiarity with advanced 5G features such as carrier aggregation (CA), EN-DC, Massive MIMO, and VoNR (Voice over New Radio).
• Experience using industry standard test tools such as QPST, QXDM, Wireshark, and Lauterbach trace debuggers.
