Job summary

Mahindra and Mahindra Limited is seeking a gasoline engine calibration engineer with 2–4 years of experience to lead steady state performance improvements and emission development. The role involves calibration, drivability, OBD, and type-approval trials, collaborating with EMS and other system teams to deliver robust engine performance.

Qualifications

• BE/BTech or ME/MTech in a relevant engineering discipline.
• 2–4 years of experience in engine calibration and emission development.
• Proficiency with calibration software INCA and data acquisition tools.
• Basic coding skills in Matlab and Python.
• Understanding of engine and emission regulations.
• Experience in MPFI engine development from calibration to SOP.
• Ability to work in a dynamic, team-based environment.

Responsibilities

• Gasoline engine optimization including steady state performance and emission development.
• Gasoline vehicle calibration including ignition, emissions, drivability, and OBD.
• Conduct emission & performance robustness and homologation trials for engine type approval.
• Develop competency on calibration methodologies and tools.
• Coordinate with EMS and other suppliers for system selection and optimization.
• Collaborate with Vehicle Integration, NVH, Electricals, and Performance simulation teams.
• Plan day-to-day calibration activities and maintain a project tracker.
• Collect and collate benchmark data for reference.
• Analyze issues via root-cause analysis using problem solving techniques.

Job description

Select how often (in days) to receive an alert:

• a) Gasoline engine Optimization involving activities like, steady state performance and emission developement, including but not limited to combustion system, injection system, exhaust after-treatment system.
• b) Gasoline vehicle calibration involving, vehicle emission developement, vehicle calibration, drivability, environmental corrections, cold start and OBD
• c) Emission & Performance Robustness and homologation trials for engines type approval.
• d) Develop competency on methologies and tools calibration development
• e) Laise with EMS supplier and other key system suppliers for system selection and optimization.
• f) Laise with CFT like Vehicle Integration, NVH, Electricals, Performance simulation, Engine development centre, Reliability and Service for engineering targets delivery.
• g) Plan for the day-today calibration activities and maintain a project tracker.
• h) Collect & collate benchmark data.
• i) Analyse the issues arising out of test to confirm the design by root cause analysis of the problems / issues by using various problem solving techniques like Global 8D or other problem solving tools.

General Requirements

• 1. Basic understanding of engine architecture
• 2. Basic understanding of combustion system and emission control. Effects of combustion hardware on performance and emission.
• 3. Knowledge of calibration softwares -INCA and other data acquisition tools.
• 4. Basic coding skills in Matlab and /or Phython
• 5. Knowledge of vehicle sub systems which affect vehicle performance parameters
• 6. Knowledge of steady state engine development on engine bench
• 7. Knowledge of EMS system component selection and evaluation methods
• 8. Knowledge of vehicle calibration, comfort functions, drivability, IOBD etc
• 9. Understanding of Intake, exhaust, cooling and fuel system interfaces on engine performance and emissions.
• 10. Failure analysis, root cause analysis
• 11. Should have worked in atleast one MPFI engine development program from start of calibration to SOP
• 12. Awareness of emission cycles, test procedures, various norms and regulation
• 14. Willingness to work as a team in highly dynamic environment
