Job summary

African Industries is seeking a senior Engagement Manager to drive transformational improvements across iron ore and coal mining assets. Based from the CoE in Kolkata, you will lead analytics, governance, and cross-functional interventions to boost production efficiency and reduce costs across sites in Africa.

You will guide planning, monitor deviations from budgets, and partner with beneficiation and downstream plants to ensure synchronized operations.

Qualifications

  • B.Tech/BE in Mining Engineering (Tier 1 preferred).
  • MBA from a reputed institute (preferred).
  • 16-25 years of strong exposure to iron ore and coal mining operations.
  • Experience in structured problem solving / consulting / transformation roles.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mining performance and productivity improvement across sites.
  • Drive cost optimization: analyze drivers and EBITDA impact.
  • Plan and govern with monthly/weekly performance reviews and dashboards.
  • Coordinate with plant and downstream requirements for synchronization.
  • Conduct data‑driven root cause analysis on production losses.
  • Travel periodically to Nigeria for audits and improvement projects.

About the Role

The role will act as a central transformation leader for mining operations across iron ore/coal/other assets in Africa. The incumbent will drive production efficiency, cost optimization, and operational discipline through structured analytics, governance, and cross-functional interventions from the Centre of Excellence (CoE), Kolkata.

This is not a plant execution role. The position functions as a consulting-style Engagement Manager driving performance improvement across sites.

Role & Responsibilities
1. Mining Performance & Productivity Improvement
  • Drive optimization of ROM production, drilling & blasting efficiency, and equipment utilization
  • Improve stripping ratios, ore recovery, and mine planning adherence
  • Identify bottlenecks across mine-to-crusher interface
2. Cost Optimization
  • Analyze key cost drivers: diesel, explosives, maintenance, manpower
  • Benchmark cost/ton vs industry and drive improvement initiatives
  • Build and track value cases (EBITDA impact)
3. Planning & Governance
  • Lead monthly/weekly performance reviews with structured dashboards
  • Ensure alignment between mine plan, dispatch, and plant requirements
  • Monitor deviation vs budget and drive corrective actions
4. Analytics & Problem Solving
  • Lead data-driven root cause analysis on production losses
  • Build models for productivity, equipment availability, and cycle time optimization
  • Work closely with data analysts for insights
5. Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Align mining output with beneficiation and downstream plant requirements
  • Work with mechanical/electrical teams on equipment reliability issues
6. Site Interventions
  • Travel periodically to Nigeria for audits, deep-dives, and improvement projects
Preferred Candidate Profile
