Job summary

Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) seeks a GI Endoscopy Technician to support GI procedures at our hospital in Gangtok, Sikkim. The role involves assisting gastroenterologists during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, preparing rooms and equipment, and ensuring infection control standards are followed.

Candidates should have at least 1 year of GI endoscopy experience and hold SGEIWEO GI Technician certification or an equivalent society-recognized credential, along with Basic Life Support (BLS).

Qualifications

• Desirable GI endoscopy technician certification.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• 1 year GI endoscopy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist gastroenterologists during diagnostic and therapeutic GI endoscopic procedures.
• Prepare patients, procedure rooms, equipment, and accessories for endoscopic procedures.
• Perform cleaning, high-level disinfection, storage, and routine maintenance of endoscopes and accessories.
• Maintain inventory, procedure records, equipment logs, and reprocessing documentation.
• Ensure compliance with infection control and hospital protocols during procedures.
• Assist in emergency endoscopic procedures and support quality improvement initiatives.

• SGEIWEO Certified GI Technician qualification or equivalent society-recognized endoscopy certification. & Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

Experience

• Minimum 1 year Experience in a GI endoscopy unit, including ERCP / EUS support and endoscope reprocessing (manual and AER), accessory handling (sphincterotomes, guidewires, stents), and procedure-room assistance.

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting gastroenterologists during diagnostic and therapeutic GI endoscopic procedures, including Upper GI Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, ERCP, and EUS.
• Preparing patients, procedure rooms, equipment, and accessories for endoscopic procedures.
• Performing cleaning, high-level disinfection, storage, and routine maintenance of endoscopes and accessories.
• Maintaining inventory, procedure records, equipment logs, and reprocessing documentation.
• Ensuring compliance with infection control, biomedical waste management, patient safety, and hospital protocols.
• Assisting in emergency endoscopic procedures and supporting departmental quality improvement initiatives.
