Job summary

GE Vernova in Chennai is seeking a highly analytical Cost out Engineer with a strong foundation in electrical and electronics engineering and manufacturing processes to influence cost‑effective design early in development. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of transformers, reactors, breakers, switches, and electronic modules and will develop cost models.

You will maintain BOM cost records, engage with sourcing for quotes, and collaborate across engineering to realize cost savings

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering with 8+ years of experience.
• Experience in ETAP & MATLAB Simulink, PLECS etc.
• Proficient with 3D CAD tools, preferably Creo and Windchill PDMlink.
• ANSYS Electronic desktop Windchill PLM, FEA, EPlan.
• Knowledge in manufacturing process.
• Worked on product design using low voltage electrical switchgears / medium voltage electrical switch gears / transformer.
• Aware of mechanical design to external standards (e.g., BSI, ISO, IEC, EN)
• Familiar with detailed manufacturing drawings and drawing templates.
• Aware of EHS compliance in design and engineering.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Good oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications to understand design intent and cost drivers.
• Activities related to the principles of Electrical engineering, Design Calculations, analysis, manufacturing.
• Knowledge and experience of finite element analysis – Simulation tools deals magnetics, short circuit study and Arc Flash Analysis.
• Prepare reports and documentation required for project delivery.
• Specifications of key components such as Inductor, Transformer, Capacitors, Busbar laminates, cooling systems and translate design intent to stakeholders.
• Develop detailed cost models for electrical and electronics components including: Transformers, Reactors, Breakers, Switches, Electronic modules
• Maintain cost benchmarks and databases for various manufacturing processes and materials.
• Engage with sourcing and procurement teams to validate supplier quotes and support cost negotiations.
• Participate in supplier discussions to ensure transparency and alignment on cost structures.
• Prepare and present cost analysis reports to cross‑functional stakeholders.
• Maintain BOM cost records: Track and report product cost changes due to commodity price movements, supplier cost updates, engineering design changes.
• Collaborate with sourcing and engineering to track cost‑out ideas and savings realization. Identify and report delays, risks, or gaps against cost targets.
