The Director of Software Engineering will lead multiple engineering teams, drive technology strategy, and ensure successful delivery of scalable, secure, and modern software solutions. The role combines engineering leadership, architecture, people management, delivery governance, cloud transformation, and stakeholder management to build a high-performing engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Technology Leadership

• Define and execute the technology roadmap aligned with business objectives.
• Lead Engineering Managers, Architects, Technical Leads, and software engineering teams.
• Establish engineering standards, best practices, and governance.
• Drive modernization, innovation, automation, and continuous improvement.

Product & Delivery Management

• Oversee the end-to-end Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
• Drive predictable, high-quality delivery across multiple programs.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, and Business teams to prioritize strategic initiatives.
• Monitor delivery metrics, engineering productivity, risks, and operational excellence.

Architecture & Technical Strategy

• Guide architecture for scalable, secure, and cloud-native platforms.
• Drive adoption of microservices, API-first architecture, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture.
• Ensure system reliability, scalability, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Promote DevOps, Git-based development, CI/CD, and automation practices.

People Leadership

• Build, mentor, and develop Engineering Managers, Technical Leads, and senior engineering talent.
• Lead workforce planning, hiring, succession planning, and talent development.
• Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
• Support career growth and organizational capability building.

Stakeholder Management

• Partner with senior and executive stakeholders on technology strategy and investments.
• Communicate delivery progress, dependencies, risks, and business impact.
• Manage technology partners and vendor relationships as required.

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience leading large engineering organizations, preferably 50+ engineers.
• Strong experience managing Engineering Managers and Technical Leads.
• Excellent executive-level stakeholder and communication skills.
• Strong expertise in modern software engineering and enterprise application development.
• Experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Strong understanding of APIs, microservices, distributed systems, SQL, and NoSQL.
• Hands-on understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, Git-based development, and automation.
• Experience managing large, multimillion-dollar technology programs.
• Strong knowledge of Agile, Scrum, SAFe, or other scaled delivery frameworks.
• Strong delivery governance, risk, budget, and vendor management capabilities.
