Job summary

Agratas – A Tata Enterprise in India is seeking a manufacturing/process engineer for the battery cell assembly area. You will lead design, commissioning and ramp-up of key equipment, develop robust processes, and drive improvements across the end-to-end production line.

The role requires deep knowledge of ultrasonic and laser welding, vision systems and defect-detection technologies, with strong communication skills to align with global teams and vendors.

Qualifications

• Degree in an engineering discipline with manufacturing experience.
• Experience in cell battery manufacturing, especially in the assembly area.
• Experience with equipment design, process development, commissioning and ramp up.

Responsibilities

• Become the technical authority for a manufacturing process area, lead design and ramp-up of equipment.
• Develop processes including design, control strategy and risk mitigation.
• Create machine specs for next-gen equipment and work with vendors to meet targets.
• Lead process analysis to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance quality.
• Provide guidance and leadership to junior engineers on improvements.

The Opportunity

Responsible for ensuring the battery facility has the right production equipment to meet customer requirements, working closely with global cross-functional teams, vendors, customers, and partners. The role involves supporting the implementation of advanced technologies and establishing effective solutions within a new manufacturing environment.

PERSON PROFILE

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

• To be the primary subject matter expert for a specific manufacturing process area and be the technical authority in process development, scale up and optimization
• Lead the process design efforts, implementation, commissioning and ramp-up of manufacturing equipment and capability
• Develop the manufacturing process, including the design, control strategy and risk mitigation activity for key areas of the end-to-end production process
• Create machine specifications for next gen process equipment
• Work closely with equipment vendors and technical partners to ensure the production process is delivered to target.
• Conduct detailed process analysis and modelling to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance quality.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching and leadership to junior and mid-level engineers while driving strategic process improvements and technical excellence within the team and organization.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Expertise in ultrasonic and laser welding applications with the ability refine process conditions for next generation cell manufacturing.
• Experience in implementing high-resolution vision systems, laser profilometers, and other inspection technologies for defect detection and process control in battery manufacturing.
• Excellent understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental considerations for process design.
• Excellent understanding of technical cleanliness requirements for Battery manufacturing industry.
• Experience of delivering new manufacturing capability throughout the maturation lifecycle.
• Experience of data analysis & excellent manufacturing problem solving skills.
• Ability to strategically to define future requirements and capabilities.
• Excellent communication skills at all levels of an organization.

Role Specific Qualifications/Certifications

• Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Manufacturing).
• Extensive experience in cell battery manufacturing in the Cell Assembly area as a Manufacturing or Process Engineer.
• Experience in Battery equipment design, process development, commissioning and ramp up.
