Job summary

Agratas – A Tata Enterprise is seeking a Process Engineering Manager to lead electrode manufacturing process design, equipment specification and installation. You will manage the supplier base, oversee commissioning and validate end-to-end processes for quality, cost and delivery targets.

You will drive continuous improvement across process capability, yield and safety while coordinating across product development and production teams to meet SQCDP goals and budget constraints.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant Assembly operations experience in precision manufacturing.
  • Expertise in cutting & stacking, welding and automated assembly techniques.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams through equipment build, FAT and ramp-up.
  • Knowledge of process capability, yield improvement and defect reduction.
  • Familiarity with SPC, PFMEA, Control Plans and validation frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, specify, acquire, install and deliver manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Lead vendor management to meet SQCDP targets.
  • Guide engineering teams from conception to delivery with strong business cases.

Job description

The Process Engineering Manager will be responsible for process design and definition, equipment specification, acquisition, installation, commissioning and vendor management for all elements of the electrode manufacturing process. The successful candidate will be required to build skills and capability within the newly formed function to ensure outstanding performance against key manufacturing performance indicators including Overall Equipment Effectiveness, Rate of Climb adherence and delivery to SQCDP targets.

PERSON PROFILE
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • Accountability for the planning, specification, acquisition, installation and delivery of manufacturing production equipment, processes and facilities that meet our quality, volume and cost targets.
  • Management of the equipment vendor supply chain to ensure on delivery of plant & equipment to specified SQCDP and Process Capability targets.
  • Lead a team through the engineering process from its conception through to delivery ensuring that all metrics including Control Points in Specified Tolerance, Process Performance and Process Capability and Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People and Environment objectives are met.
  • Lead the manufacturing team through the engineering change process from its conception through to final approval, this will include facilitating line trials through to the final validation of a complex facility introduction and modification, where lessons learned are captured and shared with relevant stakeholders.
  • Responsibility for the development, maintenance and governance of end to end manufacturing processes, including the validation and approval of Standardised Work Instructions.
  • Create opportunities and develop plans which pro-actively drive engineering continuous improvement whilst ensuring a logical & rigorous response to emerging issues identified through audit.
  • Develop improvement plans / glide paths for external customer performance.
  • Work closely with product development workstreams to identify the impact and opportunity driven by Technology Roadmap development and implementation.
  • Collaborate across functional areas and production to overcome challenges and present clear solutions with a strong business case to senior management.
  • Develop and manage regular reviews of Process Failure Modes & Effects Analysis / Control plan / process capability to ensure the equipment is capable of continually delivering a quality product to our customer that exceeds their expectations.
  • Lead all process design and installation project timing plans and manage expenditure budgets through effective financial control.
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience in Cell Assembly processes (e.g. Cutting&Stacking, Ultrasonic Welding, X-ray or CT machines).
  • Strong background in automated mechanical assembly systems, including high-speed, high volume manufacturing environments
  • Experience in process development validation and industrialisation of welding and assembly technologies.
  • Demonstrated capability in leading cross-functional engineering teams through equipment build, FAT, commissioning and ramp-up
  • Hands-on experience with equipment suppliers and system integrators, including specification, design reviews and acceptance
  • Experience of management and analysis of data and cost benefits, the production of metrics, the development of plans with defined objectives, and structured problem solving.
  • Strong understanding of process capability, yield optimisation, and defect reduction methodologies
  • Experience with data-driven problem solving, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions
  • Ability to define and manage process KPIs (OEE, yield, cycle time, scrap) and drive continuous improvement activities.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex workstreams in a fast-paced project environment
  • Adept at managing and prioritising multiple activities simultaneously
  • Experience of 6 Sigma approach in business performance & improvement.
  • Experience and working knowledge of Health and Safety Audits and ergonomics including risk assessments.
  • Strong understanding of tension control, fragile product handling and in-line inspection methods
  • Experience with automated assembly processes such as press-fit, stacking, joining, sealing or precision handling
  • Familiarity with SPC, PFMEA, Control Plans and process validation frameworks
  • Experience supporting new production line launches (greenfield or brownfield)
  • Knowledge of machine vision systems for alignment, inspection and closed-loop control
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, PowerPoint; Python/Minitab is a plus)
Role Specific Qualifications/Certifications
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Assembly operations, with strong expertise in Cutting & Stacking processes, equipment operation, process optimization, troubleshooting, and production management. Experience in battery cell manufacturing or similarly demanding precision manufacturing environment.
