Job summary

Praxis Packaging seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to design packaging machines and SPMs per customer specs and manufacturing standards. You will create 2D drawings in AutoCAD and 3D models in SolidWorks, maintain BOMs, and perform calculations to assure safe, efficient operation.

You will support cross-functional teams, assist in assembly and commissioning, and drive continuous product improvements through root-cause analysis. Strong analytical skills and hands-on execution are essential.

Qualifications

  • 2 to 10+ years of experience in Machine Design, Packaging Machinery, or SPM.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD for 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
  • Knowledge of machine design principles, mechanical components, manufacturing processes, and standards.
  • Experience in Sheet Metal Design, BOM Preparation, Design Calculations, and Tolerance Stack-Up Analysis.
  • Familiarity with Value Engineering, Design Optimization, and Cost Reduction techniques.
  • Hands-on experience supporting manufacturing, assembly, trials, installation, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and drawings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and engineering documentation.
  • Strong communication and teamwork with cross-functional departments.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, capable of handling multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop Packaging Machines and Special Purpose Machines (SPMs) based on customer requirements, technical specifications, and manufacturing standards.
  • Perform Machine Design and Value Engineering to improve product performance, optimize manufacturing cost, enhance reliability, and simplify assembly.
  • Prepare accurate 2D engineering drawings using AutoCAD, including detailed manufacturing, fabrication, machining, and assembly drawings.
  • Develop complete 3D models, assemblies, and components using SolidWorks while ensuring design feasibility and compliance with engineering standards.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed BOMs, engineering documentation, part lists, revision records, and design change documentation.
  • Perform engineering calculations, tolerance stack-up analysis, material selection, and component sizing to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable machine performance.
  • Coordinate with Purchase, Production, Quality, and Assembly teams to resolve design-related issues and ensure smooth manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Provide technical support during machine assembly, testing, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Identify design improvements through Root Cause Analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions to enhance product quality and performance.
  • Ensure all designs comply with company standards, customer specifications, safety requirements, and applicable engineering practices.
  • Participate in prototype development, machine trials, validation, and continuous product improvement initiatives.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously while ensuring timely completion, effective communication, and adherence to project schedules.

Preferred candidate profile
