Job summary

Weatherford in Mumbai, India seeks a Design Engineer II (Mechanical) to support design, development, qualification, and sustaining engineering of packers, flow control tools, reservoir monitoring products and other downhole completion equipment.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, perform engineering calculations, participate in QA/QC activities, and ensure compliance with API/ISO standards while driving cost-effective improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering and product development.
  • Experience with Well Completion Products and Downhole Tools.
  • Familiarity with API (11D1, 19AC, 14L, 14A) and related oil & gas standards.
  • Knowledge of NACE MR0175 / sour service material requirements.
  • Proficiency in PTC Creo Parametric (or equivalent 3D CAD), Windchill PLM, and engineering analysis tools.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, development, enhancement, and sustaining engineering of Well Completion Products and downhole tools.
  • Prepare engineering models, drawings, BOMs, ECOs, and technical documentation using approved engineering systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations including burst, collapse, tensile, torque, compression, and performance envelope analysis.
  • Participate in product qualification, validation testing, and reliability assessments to ensure product performance and compliance.
  • Assist in troubleshooting product performance issues, field failures, manufacturing concerns, and supplier-related technical challenges.
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective action for non-conformances and quality issues.
  • Participate in FMEA, risk assessments, design reviews, and technical evaluations of new and existing products.
  • Work with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, and Test teams to improve manufacturability and reliability.
  • Assist in preparation of technical reports, qualification reports, test procedures, design records, and engineering specifications.
  • Support cost reduction, value engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with API, ISO standards and company engineering standards.
  • Participate in field support activities and provide engineering assistance as needed.
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing and develop competency in Well Completion technologies.

Job description

We are seeking a motivated Design Engineer II (Mechanical) to join the Well Completion Products (WCP) team in Mumbai, India. This role supports the design, development, qualification, and sustaining engineering of packers, flow control tools, reservoir monitoring products, and other downhole completion equipment used in cased-hole and open-hole completion applications. The Design Engineer II will contribute to product development activities, engineering analysis, design documentation, qualification testing, and non-conformance resolution while working closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams. This role provides opportunities to build technical expertise in downhole completion technologies and develop a strong foundation in product engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the design, development, enhancement, and sustaining engineering of Well Completion Products and downhole tools.
  • Prepare engineering models, drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), engineering change requests, and technical documentation using approved engineering systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations including burst, collapse, tensile, torque, compression, and performance envelope analysis.
  • Participate in product qualification, validation testing, and reliability assessments to ensure product performance and compliance.
  • Assist in troubleshooting product performance issues, field failures, manufacturing concerns, and supplier-related technical challenges.
