Job summary

Jcbl is seeking a Design/Detailing focused professional in Tamil Nadu to convert concepts into manufacturing-ready drawings. The role involves creating 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOM entries under supervision, while coordinating with managers and shop-floor teams for efficient production.

You will participate in drawing annotations, standard component integration, and data management within ERP/PDM/PLM systems to ensure accuracy and traceability.

Qualifications

• Must be able to translate 3D CAD models into precise 2D drawings with tolerances and material call-outs.
• Experience in BOM data entry and part numbering processes.
• Familiarity with design documentation practices and standard drawing annotations (AWS/ISO where applicable).

JD Mechanical:

Team member" would typically be the Design Engineer, Junior Engineer, or Drafter/Detailer.

The team members perform the essential, hands-on activities that directly convert concepts into manufacturing instructions, working under the direct supervision of a Manager.

Here is a list of their core, micro-level activities in details:

• 3d model creation, step files, and 2d GA drawing for proposal
• Part level model and drawing creation, weldment, dxf for manufacturing
• Part number and BOM creation, INFOR
• Part component specification preparation for purchase and costing
• Support cross functional team for NPD and regular improvement

1. CAD & Detailing Activities (The Core Work)

These activities are the direct execution of the Manager's instructions based on the approved General Arrangement (GA) drawing.

• Part Detailing: Creating precise, dimensioned 2D detail drawings from 3D CAD models for every unique fabricated part (e.g., a specific bracket, a tank baffle, a chassis cross-member).
• Activity Focus: Applying correct tolerances, material call-outs, surface finish notes, and bend radii.
• Sub-Assembly Creation: Modelling and drawing sub-assemblies (e.g., axle mounting assembly, container door frame, piping manifold) under supervision.
• Drawing Modification: Implementing Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) or Red-Line changes requested by the Manager or Manufacturing team.
• Standard Component Integration: Selecting, positioning, and integrating standard bought-out components (e.g., standard fasteners, hinges, valves, lights) into the main CAD assembly.
• Drawing Annotation: Adding necessary fabrication notes, welding symbols (per AWS/ISO standards), and NDT requirements as specified by the Senior Engineer or Manager.

2. Documentation and Data Management Activities

These activities ensure the integrity and accessibility of the design data within the company systems.

• BOM Data Entry (Micro-Level): Entering raw material and standard part details into the preliminary and final Bill of Materials (BOM) linked to the design.
• ERP. PDM/PLM Check-In/Out: Daily checking in and checking out of Part numbers, CAD files using the PDM/PLM system to maintain version control and prevent simultaneous editing and rework.
• File Naming and Structuring: Ensuring all parts, CAD files and associated drawings adhere to the company's established naming convention and folder structure.
• Drawing Print Preparation: Preparing and formatting drawing sets (PDFs/soft or physical prints) for internal review, printing, or external vendor/customer submission, ensuring correct title block information.

3. Support and Communication Activities

These activities facilitate the design process and interface with other departments.

• Material Specification Research: Assisting the Manager in researching and verifying the suitability of standard raw materials (e.g., steel grades) or small bought-out components.
• Inter-Department Liaison: Taking design clarification questions from the shop floor and relaying them to the supervising Manager or Senior Engineer.
• Drawing Archival: Filing and organizing old or obsolete project drawings and supporting documentation as directed.
• Basic Calculation Support: Performing simple engineering calculations (e.g., weight estimates, basic beam deflection, volume calculation for tankers) to support the design decisions of the Manager.

4. Learning and Growth Activities

• Standards Study: Actively reviewing and learning relevant industry standards and codes (e.g., basic welding standards, safety regulations for mobility products, material specifications).
• Software Proficiency: Participating in training and demonstrating improved proficiency in CAD software and the PDM/PLM system.
