Job summary

Quark Global is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design process from concept through to production. You will create 2D drawings and 3D CAD models, develop BOMs and assembly documentation, and work closely with CNC and production teams to ensure manufacturability and quality across components and assemblies.

The role involves prototype development, testing, design validation, and continuous improvement to reduce cost and enhance efficiency in manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical design processes and CAD workflows.
• Ability to create 2D drawings with GD&T and material specs.
• Proficient in 3D CAD modelling of components and assemblies.
• Familiarity with BOM, revisions, and engineering documentation.
• Work with CNC/machine shop and production teams to ensure manufacturability.
• Knowledge of DF(M) and DFA principles.

Responsibilities

• Create 2D engineering drawings with dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, materials and manufacturing requirements.
• Develop detailed 3D CAD models of components, assemblies and products.
• Prepare assembly drawings, exploded views, BOMs, and assembly documentation for production and service teams.
• Design mechanical components, fixtures, jigs, tools, and product assemblies.
• Develop and maintain BOMs, part numbers, drawing revisions, and engineering documentation.
• Coordinate with CNC machine shop to ensure manufacturability and production readiness.
• Support CNC setup, tooling selection, machining processes, work-holding and production planning.
• Review machined components against drawings and specifications for quality control.
• Oversee prototype development, testing and design validation.
• Collaborate with production to resolve manufacturing and assembly issues.
• Identify design improvements to reduce cost and manufacturing time.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and production problems and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate with suppliers for machined parts, fabricated components and materials.
• Assist in selecting materials, bearings, fasteners, motors and gears.
• Conduct design reviews to ensure quality, performance, safety and reliability.

Summary

Responsible for the complete mechanical design and engineering process, from concept development and 3D modelling to detailed drawings, assembly documentation, prototyping, and production. The role also involves working closely with the CNC machine shop and production team to ensure components are manufactured accurately, efficiently, and according to design specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Create 2D engineering drawings with accurate dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, material specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
• Develop detailed 3D CAD models of components, assemblies, and complete products.
• Prepare assembly drawings, exploded views, BOMs, and assembly documentation for production and service teams.

• Implement Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
• Maintain proper engineering records, drawing revisions, and change-control documentation.
• Work with quality, procurement, production, and engineering teams to ensure smooth product development and manufacturing.
• Monitor production issues and provide technical support for CNC, machining, fabrication, and assembly operations.
• Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and productivity enhancement.
