Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and technically strong Head Design & Contracts to lead the Design and Contracts functions within the Construction Department. The role requires extensive experience in structural design, construction technologies, contracts administration, contract management, and dispute resolution. The candidate will be responsible for providing strategic and technical leadership across design development, structural engineering, design coordination, contract administration, commercial risk management, and contractual compliance. The role requires close coordination with consultants, contractors, project teams, legal teams, and senior management to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, within approved timelines, quality standards, and contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities
1. Design & Structural Engineering
- Lead and oversee structural design activities for ongoing and upcoming construction projects.
- Review and approve structural design concepts, calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical submissions.
- Ensure structural designs are safe, constructible, cost-effective, and aligned with project requirements.
- Coordinate with structural consultants, architects, MEP consultants, PMC teams, and project execution teams.
- Identify design gaps, technical issues, and constructability challenges and provide appropriate solutions.
- Ensure timely completion and release of design deliverables in line with project schedules.
2. Design Review & Optimization
- Review structural and engineering designs for compliance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and project requirements.
- Identify opportunities for design optimization, value engineering, cost reduction, and improvement in construction efficiency.
- Evaluate alternative structural systems, construction methodologies, materials, and technologies.
- Provide technical recommendations to management on design-related risks and project feasibility.
- Ensure coordination between design intent and actual site execution.
3. New & Innovative Construction Technologies
- Research and evaluate new and innovative construction technologies, materials, methodologies, and systems.
- Identify technologies that can improve construction quality, productivity, safety, sustainability, and project timelines.
- Evaluate the technical and commercial feasibility of adopting new construction technologies.
- Drive implementation of suitable innovative construction practices across projects.
- Keep abreast of emerging developments in structural engineering and modern construction methods.
4. Contracts Administration & Management
- Lead the Contracts Administration function for construction projects.
- Review, interpret, administer, and monitor construction contracts from award through project completion.
- Ensure contractual obligations, deliverables, milestones, and commercial requirements are clearly understood and complied with.
- Review contract terms, conditions, scope of work, specifications, payment terms, variations, extensions of time, and other contractual provisions.
- Monitor contractor compliance with contractual obligations and project requirements.
- Coordinate with project, commercial, finance, legal, and technical teams for effective contract administration.
5. FIDIC & Contractual Compliance
- Possess strong knowledge of FIDIC conditions of contract and their practical application in construction projects.
- Review and advise on contractual rights, obligations, notices, claims, variations, extensions of time, and liquidated damages.
- Ensure timely issuance and response to contractual notices and correspondence.
- Monitor contractual risks and advise management on potential financial and operational implications.
- Establish appropriate systems for maintaining contract records, correspondence, approvals, claims, and supporting documentation.
6. Claims, Arbitration & Dispute Resolution
- Review and manage contractual claims raised by contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
- Assess the validity, contractual basis, and financial impact of claims.
- Coordinate with legal and project teams in relation to contractual disputes and arbitration matters.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of Arbitration Laws and construction dispute resolution mechanisms.
- Support management in developing strategies for prevention, negotiation, settlement, and resolution of contractual disputes.
- Maintain proper documentation and evidence required for claims, arbitration, and dispute proceedings.
7. Commercial & Contract Risk Management
- Identify contractual, commercial, technical, and execution-related risks at the project level.
- Review potential cost and schedule implications arising from design changes, variations, delays, claims, and contractual disputes.
- Provide recommendations to management for mitigating contractual and commercial risks.
- Ensure that project teams maintain adequate documentation to protect the organization’s contractual interests.
- Support management during negotiations with contractors, consultants, vendors, and other stakeholders.
8. Design & Construction Coordination
- Ensure effective coordination between Design, Contracts, Project Management, Procurement, Commercial, Legal, and Site Execution teams.
- Participate in project review meetings and provide technical and contractual guidance.
- Resolve design and contractual issues impacting project execution.
- Ensure timely communication of design changes, contractual requirements, and commercial implications to relevant stakeholders.
- Support project teams in achieving project objectives related to cost, quality, time, and contractual compliance.
9. Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead and mentor the Design and Contracts teams and establish clear processes, responsibilities, and performance standards.
- Manage relationships with structural consultants, architects, PMC consultants, contractors, legal advisors, and other external stakeholders.
- Present critical design, contractual, commercial, and risk-related matters to senior management.
- Provide strategic inputs for project planning, procurement, contracting, and execution.
- Prepare management reports, contractual reviews, risk assessments, and technical recommendations as required.

- B.E. / B.Tech. in Civil Engineering; M.Tech. in Structural Engineering / relevant specialization is desirable.
- Master's in Administration / Management is desirable for candidates with strong Contracts Administration experience.
- Minimum 20 years of relevant experience in structural design, construction, engineering, and project-related technical functions.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Contracts Administration / Contract Management in the construction or infrastructure industry.
- Strong experience in handling structural design and technical coordination for large-scale construction projects.
- In-depth knowledge of new and innovative construction technologies and modern construction methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of FIDIC, contract administration, claims management, arbitration, and construction-related contractual matters.
- Experience in handling contractual negotiations, variations, EOT, claims, disputes, and arbitration matters.
- Experience in Real Estate / Infrastructure / Construction projects will be preferred.
- Candidates around 45 years of age will be preferred.
- Proficiency in English is essential, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, analytical, and decision-making skills are a must.
