Job summary

Harbauer in Kolkata seeks a Design Engineer for process design of water and wastewater treatment systems. You will lead design calculations for WTP/STP/ETP and support pre-bid estimation and tender activities.

The role requires strong drafting review, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with a focus on cost-effective, compliant designs and independent work ability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
• Masters degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Water & Wastewater Engineering (preferred).
• Formal training or certification in water and wastewater treatment technologies (preferred).
• Minimum 10 years experience in similar field with 3 years of independently handling the design calculations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and undertake process design calculation for WTP, STP, and ETP systems.
• Own the estimation activities during the pre-bid tendering stage for industrial ETP, WTP, and STP projects.
• Independently verify and validate rates quoted by clients through in-house and external vendors.
• Undertake complete design development and hydraulic/process calculations during the pre-bid tendering stage for industrial ETP, STP, and WTP systems.
• Prepare and deliver techno-commercial project proposals to support new business development.
• Ensure end-to-end coordination across all stakeholders to meet project requirements, timelines, and schedules, working closely with cross-disciplinary teams.
• Review, validate, and approve design and calculations for ongoing projects to ensure technical compliance and optimisation.
• Conduct technical review meetings with project teams to identify, address, and resolve design and engineering issues.
• Drive standardisation of designs, processes, and project deliverables to improve efficiency and consistency.
• Ensure alignment of designs with target cost objectives, meeting defined design-to-cost benchmarks.
• Lead post-project design evaluations, identifying successful and unsuccessful elements and capturing lessons learned.
• Proactively identify and track relevant tenders, including regular monitoring of industry portals and client sources, and support bid/no-bid evaluations in coordination with business development and management teams.

This job involves occasional travel to physically assess the sites pertaining to which the design of technical project is foreseen.
