Job description

Role Specification:

• Support the design of technical solutions and energy strategies that enable the Buildings and Infrastructure sector to achieve national and local net zero carbon goals, with a focus on both heating and power systems.
• Conduct energy audits across a variety of public and private sector sites, identifying improvement opportunities and estimating associated capital costs, savings, and the feasibility of low- to net zero-carbon heat and power solutions.
• Prepare clear, concise, and client-friendly energy reports summarizing the outcomes of site visits, surveys, and energy audits.
• Interpret and communicate net zero carbon policies to clients, helping them define their own ambitions and develop practical action plans to achieve targeted outcomes.
• Perform energy modelling and audit assessments for both new and existing building projects, with primary emphasis on reducing operational energy emissions while maintaining an understanding of whole-life carbon impacts.
• Integrate net zero carbon advisory services with broader building and infrastructure objectives, including healthy building parameters and operational whole-life cost efficiency.
• Review and undertake due diligence on third-party low-carbon and net zero-carbon project reports, technical drawings, specifications, energy assessments, and cost models.
• Ensure all deliverables are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
• Assist with business development activities by identifying opportunities and prospects that help position the team to prepare competitive and successful proposals.
• Contribute to building and maintaining strong client relationships to generate repeat business and future opportunities.
• Carry out scenario modelling and cost-benefit assessments for emissions reduction pathways.
• Develop client deliverables such as reports, presentations, and dashboards that provide practical and actionable insights.

Candidate Specification:

• Experience in building energy performance analysis.
• Practical knowledge of net zero carbon frameworks, methodologies, and guidance, such as UKGBC, LETI, SBTi, and CRREM.
• Strong understanding of GHG accounting standards, decarbonisation technologies, and ESG-related frameworks.
• Proficiency in analytical tools such as Excel and Power BI, along with carbon accounting software.
• Ability to perform energy audits and carbon footprint assessments for HVAC systems within commercial and industrial environments.
• Knowledge of decarbonisation strategies focused on HVAC retrofits, electrification, and renewable energy integration.
• Hands-on experience with energy modelling tools such as IES, TAS, Sefaira, and Hysopt.
• Experience in energy and carbon management.
• Familiarity with different building and infrastructure contract models.
• Academic qualification in a relevant technical discipline, with at least a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy, or a related field.
• Membership in a relevant professional body.
• Strong report writing skills, along with effective visual and verbal presentation abilities.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong collaborative approach, both internally and with external partners or subcontractors.
• Good working knowledge of the MS Office suite.

Desirable Criteria:

• Experience in building services design or operations.
