Job summary

Responsibilities

• Carry out building performance modelling, including Part L compliance, overheating assessments, operational energy analysis, climate risk assessments, microclimate studies, and thermal comfort analysis.
• Support planning applications and early design stages through accurate modelling insights, sustainability analysis, and environmental design recommendations.
• Conduct passive design and parametric modelling to assess design options and optimise building performance.
• Undertake Whole Life Carbon assessments, including embodied and operational carbon calculations aligned with standards such as RICS and TM65.
• Interpret WLC results and support design teams in identifying carbon reduction opportunities across materials, systems, and construction methods.
• Use tools such as OneClick LCA and apply circular economy principles, including material efficiency, reuse, low-carbon material selection, and design for disassembly.
• Help project teams reduce waste, improve resource recovery, and integrate circular economy thinking into design workflows.
• Present modelling outcomes clearly to clients and design teams, translating technical findings into practical recommendations.
• Contribute to sustainable design strategies across residential, commercial, healthcare, education, and sports projects.
• Manage multiple energy and sustainability deliverables with strong project management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Provide feedback on modelling protocols, workflows, and processes to support continuous improvement.
• Maintain effective communication with WSP UK teams on project progress, modelling results, and sustainability strategies.
• Participate in project meetings, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and share progress updates.

• Manage delegated modelling tasks efficiently, meet deadlines, and communicate resourcing needs to team leads.
• Identify and communicate additional fee requirements where modelling scope or technical inputs expand.

Desired Skills

• Strong understanding of building physics.
• Experience in building energy modelling using IES, preferably, or tools such as DesignBuilder and EnergyPlus.
• Proven experience in Whole Life Carbon Assessment using OneClick LCA.
• Knowledge of green building rating systems such as BREEAM, LEED, and WELL is highly desirable.
• Experience with detailed ApacheHVAC/HVAC modelling is preferred but not mandatory.
• Strong working knowledge of standards such as Part L, TM54, TM52, and TM59.
• Good data analysis and reporting skills using Excel.
• Experience with Rhino and Ladybug Tools is desirable.
