Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator with 8+ years of hands-on experience in database
administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability, security, and troubleshooting. The
candidate will be responsible for maintaining reliable, secure, highly available, and high-performing database
environments supporting enterprise and mission-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and maintain database servers and related database components.
- Administer and manage production, staging, development, and disaster-recovery database environments.
- Monitor database health, availability, capacity, performance, and resource utilization.
- Perform SQL query optimization, indexing, execution-plan analysis, and database performance tuning.
- Design, implement, and regularly test backup, restore, recovery, and disaster-recovery procedures.
- Implement and maintain high-availability and replication solutions such as clustering, mirroring, Always On, Data
Guard, or equivalent technologies.
- Identify and resolve database incidents, performance bottlenecks, connectivity issues, locking/blocking, deadlocks,
and data integrity problems.
- Manage database users, roles, privileges, authentication, access controls, and security policies.
- Perform database migration, consolidation, upgrade, and version-integration activities.
- Work closely with application developers, DevOps, infrastructure, security, and project teams to support application
releases and deployments.
- Develop and maintain database standards, SOPs, operational documentation, monitoring dashboards, and recovery
runbooks.
- Participate in capacity planning, infrastructure planning, change management, and production support activities.
- Automate routine DBA activities using scripting and database utilities wherever practical.
- Support audits, compliance requirements, vulnerability remediation, and database security reviews.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior database administrators and support teams.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with at least one major RDBMS such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
- Advanced SQL skills, including complex queries, stored procedures, functions, triggers, indexing, and execution-plan
analysis.
- Strong knowledge of database architecture, normalization, transactions, locking, concurrency, and data integrity.
- Hands-on experience with backup and recovery, point-in-time recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
- Experience with high availability, replication, clustering, and failover concepts.
- Strong troubleshooting and performance-tuning capabilities.
- Working knowledge of Linux/Unix and/or Windows Server environments.
- Knowledge of database monitoring and administration tools.
- Experience with scripting/automation using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or equivalent is preferred.
- Understanding of cloud database services such as AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL/Managed Instance, or Google Cloud
database services is an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Relevant DBA certification such as Microsoft, Oracle, PostgreSQL, AWS, Azure, or equivalent is preferred.
- Experience supporting enterprise applications and 247 production environments.
- Experience in government, PSU, banking, healthcare, or other mission-critical environments is an advantage.
