Job summary

SHL is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to direct and optimize mission-critical database systems across production and non-production environments. You will collaborate with Engineering, DevOps, and Platform teams to ensure high availability, performance, security, and reliability while supporting global products and platforms.

The role requires hands-on experience with SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, and modern databases like PostgreSQL, Redis, Aerospike, or Elasticsearch.

Qualifications

• Experience administering SQL Server, MySQL, and MongoDB in production environments.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and managed database services.
• Proficient in containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).

Responsibilities

• Install, configure and maintain database systems across production and non-production environments.
• Administer and optimize databases including SQL Server, MySQL, and MongoDB.
• Monitor performance, identify bottlenecks, and perform query optimization.
• Design and maintain high availability, replication, clustering, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Oversee backups, restores, and data recovery strategies for business continuity.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on schema design, indexing, and query tuning.
• Implement and maintain database security policies and access controls.
• Automate routine tasks using scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
• Participate in incident reviews and root cause analysis for database systems.
• Hands-on experience with Linux and/or Windows server environments.

We are looking for a highly qualified Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to direct and optimize mission-critical database systems assisting our global products and platforms. This role will work closely with Engineering, DevOps, and Platform teams to ensure high availability, performance, security, and reliability of database systems across production and non-production environments.

What You Will Be Doing

• Install, configure and maintain database systems across production and non-production environments.
• Administer and optimize databases including Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and MongoDB.
• Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and perform performance tuning and query optimization.
• Design and maintain high availability, replication, clustering, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Oversee database backups, restores, and data recovery strategies to ensure business continuity.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on database schema design, indexing strategies, and query performance improvements
• Implement and maintain database security policies, access controls, and compliance requirements.
• Automate routine database tasks and operational processes using scripting and automation tools.
• Participate in incident feedback, troubleshooting, and root cause evaluation related to database systems
• Hands-on experience with Linux and/or Windows server environments.
• Strong scripting using PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation.
• Experience with database monitoring, capacity planning, and performance analysis tools.

Essential

• Exposure to modern databases such as PostgreSQL, Redis/Aerospike or Elasticsearch.
• Experience with cloud platforms and directed database services
• Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
