Job summary

Pfizer in India seeks a Customs & Compliance SME to oversee imports/exports across APAC, ensuring regulatory adherence, GDP/GMP standards, and Pfizer policies. Role includes risk mitigation, process standardization, and leading improvement projects with cross-functional teams.

You will liaise with brokers and authorities, manage audits, and drive continuous controls while maintaining compliance with local laws. This role may require after-hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in a relevant field.
• 6–10 years of relevant work experience in customs/compliance.
• Strong knowledge of customs regulations and audits.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Ensure APAC customs compliance with local laws, customs regulations, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage import/export process including Drug Testing/sampling as required by local Authorities, and import duty payment process for importation into India and other APAC countries as assigned.
• Manage customs risks by identifying customs compliance gaps, operational vulnerabilities, and implementing corrective actions to mitigate any non-compliance risks.
• Prevent customs penalties and violations through accurate customs administration and oversight.
• Liaise with Internal Stakeholders, Customs Brokers and Customs Authorities on customs-related matters, customs audits and escalations.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen compliance controls and customs processes.
• Ensure adherence to Pfizer SOPs, work instructions, and corporate values in all customs operations.
• Monitor customs performance and reporting, ensuring issues are identified, escalated, and addressed in a timely manner.

Job description

ROLE SUMMARY

As the Customs & Compliance Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), the role is responsible for ensuring Imports and Exports of shipments are executed adhering to Customs Regulatory compliance, mitigating customs risks, preventing penalties, and providing oversight of day-to-day customs operations across the APAC region including India. This includes ensuring that all customs activities are conducted in full compliance with applicable customs regulations, Pfizer policies, GDP/GMP standards, and local health authority requirements. The role also drives import/export process standardization and continuous improvement initiatives, leading projects to identify, mitigate, and remediate customs compliance risks while enhancing operational effectiveness and efficiency across the region.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Given the nature of the role, calls outside of standard office hours may be required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree
• 6-10 years' relevant work experience
• Strong knowledge on Customs Compliance operations and processes
• Direct involvement in managing Customs Audits
• Knowledge on Supply Chain and Logistics
• Proficient in English (both verbal and writing) and other languages are a benefit
• Experience in managing complex issues independently and drive solutions to the problems with Stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Pharmaceutical / Life science industry
• Broad PC skills are essential (MS applications Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint)
• Profound knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems and other Data Analytic Tools.
