Job summary

PETA India invites applications for a Cruelty Response Team member in Mumbai (preferred) or Delhi to assist in handling cruelty-case investigations and related complaints.

You will respond to calls and emails, coordinate with police, SPCA, SAWBs and volunteers, and maintain records in the CRT database. The role requires a bachelor’s degree, computer proficiency, and fluency in Hindi and English, with the ability to work on a rota system.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution.
• Voluntary or other experience handling cruelty-to-animal cases.
• Computer proficiency and ability to use standard office software.
• Fluency in Hindi and English; knowledge of other regional languages is a plus.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Respond to assigned cruelty-case calls and complaints received via e-mail or social media.
• Respond to common cruelty-case complaints with form letters and other means to help complainants.
• Coordinate urgently with police, local animal protection organizations, volunteers, SPCA, SAWBs or other stakeholders to assist with case complaints as needed.
• File complaints and address issues related to community animal feeding and conflicts in housing colonies.
• Assist CRT with research and other desk work as assigned.
• Assist the public in approved ways in matters of cruelty to animals.
• Maintain and update the CRT’s database on volunteering and law enforcement contacts and services.
• Ensure thorough records are maintained for all complaints and resolutions.
• Perform any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Mostly weekdays with evening and weekend cover on a rota system

Reports To:

Lead Cruelty Response Coordinator

Location:

Mumbai (preferred) or Delhi

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Respond to assigned cruelty-case calls and complaints received via e-mail or social media in an effective and efficient manner
• Respond to common cruelty-case complaints with form letters and other means to help complainants
• Seek urgent coordination with police, local animal protection organizations, volunteers, District Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), State Animal Welfare Boards (SAWBs) or other stakeholders to assist with cruelty case complaints as needed.
• File complaints and work as needed to effectively address issues related to community animal feeding and conflicts in housing colonies involving community animals
• Assist CRT with research and other desk work as assigned
• Assist the public in approved ways in matters of cruelty to animals
• Maintain and update the CRT’s database on volunteering and law enforcement contacts and services
• Ensure that thorough records are maintained for all complaints received regarding cruelty cases, including how they were handled and resolved
• Perform any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor
