Job description

Education Projects Coordinator in Mumbai | PETA India
PETA India

PETA India works to protect animals from cruelty and to build a country where animals are treated with kindness and respect. The organisation runs public campaigns, rescues animals in distress, pushes for stronger laws, and teaches people how their everyday choices affect animals. A large part of that work happens with young people, because habits of kindness form early. Through its humane education programme, PETA India brings lessons about compassion into classrooms across the country. This role sits within PETA India's Education and Outreach team, which takes humane education materials into schools and builds the volunteer network that carries this work forward.

Role

The Education Projects Coordinator promotes kindness to animals among children aged 8 to 12, using PETA India's humane education materials in schools across the country, both in person and online. The role combines running workshops, building relationships with schools, teachers and volunteers, and finding new ways to bring humane education to more children.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct workshops for children aged 8 to 12 across India, in person and online, using PETA India's humane education materials including Compassionate Citizen and Ellie the animatronic elephant.
  • Liaise with schools and volunteers to arrange workshops for schoolchildren and teachers.
  • Help develop and update PETA India's humane education materials, and identify where updates are needed.
  • Build and maintain a database of private and government schools for outreach.
  • Train and grow a strong network of volunteers and partner NGOs, and take steps to keep the quality of their work high.
  • Research the Indian education system and suggest new opportunities for PETA India's school outreach programme.
  • Keep track of new ways children learn, and of the media young people use, so PETA India's programmes stay current.
  • Identify events and opportunities to promote humane education, such as school festivals and parent‑teacher meets.
  • Meet with school board and government officials to advocate for humane education in the official school curriculum.
  • Work with PETA India's online marketing team and other teams to publicise the humane education work.
  • Prepare and maintain a detailed timeline and agenda for tasks, workshops and events.
  • Write thorough notes after every event for the Manager of Education and Outreach and the Director of PETA India, covering what worked well and what can improve.
  • Manage inventory for the department and act as a media spokesperson when asked.
Requirements
  • Degree in a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Fluency in English and Hindi. Fluency in other languages is a plus.

  • Proven organisational and time-management skills.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively.
  • Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle.
  • Support for PETA India's philosophy and the ability to advocate its positions professionally.
  • Work that directly shapes how a generation of children treats animals.
  • Regular contact with schools, teachers and volunteers across the country.
  • Opportunities to speak in public and represent PETA India in the media.
  • A team working on animal protection through campaigns, rescue and law reform.
