Job Description

Consultant - Surgical Oncology is responsible for evaluating and surgically managing patients with malignant and cancer-related surgical conditions. The includes clinical assessment, staging review, treatment planning, oncological surgery, pre- and post-operative care, patient counselling, and coordination with medical oncology, radiotherapy, pathology, radiology, anaesthesia, nursing, and other multidisciplinary teams.

Evaluate patients with suspected or confirmed surgical cancers.
Obtain detailed medical and treatment histories.
Review pathology, imaging, and staging investigations.
Develop appropriate surgical treatment plans.
Perform oncological surgical procedures within professional scope.
Manage cancer-related surgical emergencies when required.
Provide pre-operative evaluation and patient preparation.
Coordinate investigations and medical optimization before surgery.
Provide post-operative oncological and surgical care.
Monitor wounds, drains, complications, and recovery.
Coordinate with medical oncology and radiation oncology teams for multidisciplinary treatment.
Participate in tumour board and multidisciplinary cancer discussions.
Counsel patients and families regarding surgery, risks, recovery, and follow-up.
Maintain accurate operative notes and clinical documentation.
Review histopathology and other post-operative reports.
Coordinate rehabilitation and follow-up requirements.
Follow infection prevention, surgical safety, and patient care protocols.
Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement activities.
Guide junior doctors and surgical clinical staff as appropriate.
Maintain patient privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and professional standards.
