Job Role: Construction Accountant

Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Construction Accountant with a minimum of 45 years of relevant experience, preferably in the construction, infrastructure, contracting, or real-estate industry. The candidate should be capable of independently handling complete accounting from day-to-day entries through finalisation of accounts and preparation of the Balance Sheet, with strong practical knowledge of GST, TDS, Income Tax, construction/project accounting, and statutory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Handle complete day-to-day accounting activities.
- Record purchase, sales, expenses, receipts, payments, journal entries, and bank transactions.
- Maintain general ledger, cash book, bank book, purchase and sales registers.
- Perform bank, vendor, customer, and ledger reconciliations.
- Maintain proper supporting documentation for all accounting transactions.
- Ensure accurate and timely posting of accounting entries.
2. Construction / Project Accounting:
- Maintain project-wise and site-wise accounts.
- Track project expenses, material purchases, labour costs, subcontractor bills, and other project-related expenses.
- Account for contractor and subcontractor bills, retention amounts, advances, recoveries, and deductions.
- Monitor project-wise costs against budgets where required.
- Reconcile material, contractor, subcontractor, and project-related balances.
- Understand accounting treatment of work-in-progress (WIP), construction expenses, capitalisation, and project-related assets.
3. GST Construction Industry:
- Strong practical knowledge of GST applicable to construction and works contracts.
- Maintain GST purchase and sales records and ensure proper classification of transactions.
- Verify GST invoices received from contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and service providers.
- Handle Input Tax Credit (ITC) reconciliation and identify discrepancies.
- Understand GST treatment of works contracts, subcontractors, construction services, advances, reverse charge and related transactions, as applicable.
- Assist in preparation and filing of applicable GST returns.
- Reconcile books of accounts with GST returns and GST portal data.
- Coordinate with tax consultants for GST assessments, notices, and reconciliations.
4. TDS & Income Tax:
- Handle TDS calculations, deductions, payments, returns, and reconciliation.
- Understand TDS provisions applicable to contractors, subcontractors, professional services, rent, and other business expenses.
- Prepare and maintain TDS-related records and certificates.
- Assist with income-tax compliance, tax audit requirements, and assessments.
- Coordinate with Chartered Accountants and tax consultants for income-tax matters.
- Ensure proper accounting and reconciliation of TDS receivable/payable and other statutory balances.
5. Finalisation of Accounts:
- Capable of independently working on accounts up to finalisation.
- Prepare and review Trial Balance.
- Pass year-end adjustment entries, provisions, outstanding expenses, and prepaid expense entries.
- Handle depreciation accounting and reconciliation of major ledger balances.
- Prepare Profit & Loss Account.
- Prepare Balance Sheet and supporting schedules.
- Prepare financial statements and schedules required for audit.
- Coordinate with statutory auditors and Chartered Accountants during annual finalisation.
6. Audit & Compliance:
- Assist in statutory, tax, GST, and internal audits.
- Provide schedules, ledgers, reconciliations, and supporting documents to auditors.
- Respond to audit queries and coordinate with consultants.
- Maintain proper books and records to ensure compliance with applicable laws and accounting requirements.
7. MIS & Management Reporting:
- Prepare monthly accounting reports and summaries.
- Prepare project-wise expense and cost statements.
- Provide outstanding payable and receivable reports.
- Prepare cash/bank position reports and other financial information required by management.
- Highlight accounting discrepancies, unusual transactions, and compliance issues to management.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- B.Com / M.Com / CA Inter / equivalent qualification preferred.
- Minimum 45 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Experience in construction, infrastructure, contracting, real estate, or similar industries preferred.
- Strong practical knowledge of GST and TDS.
- Good understanding of Income Tax and statutory compliance.
- Must be capable of handling accounts from day-to-day bookkeeping through finalisation and Balance Sheet preparation.
- Good understanding of construction/project accounting.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Tally / Tally Prime or other accounting ERP software.
- Good reconciliation and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet statutory and reporting deadlines.

Important Requirement:
The candidate must be capable of independently handling the company's accounting function from day-to-day bookkeeping through preparation/finalisation of the Profit & Loss Account and Balance Sheet, with a sound practical understanding of GST, TDS, Income Tax, and construction/project accounting.
