Job summary

KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) in Chennai seeks a Chief Technical Engineer / Deputy Department Manager to lead the Civil & Structural Engineering department, oversee FEED to EPC execution, and drive technical governance across oil & gas, LNG, refinery, and industrial projects.

The role requires guiding resources, mentoring teams, reviewing critical deliverables, and ensuring schedule adherence, quality, and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering; Master’s in structural engineering preferred.
• 25–30 years in Civil & Structural Engineering with leadership experience.
• Extensive experience in Oil & Gas, LNG, Refinery, Petrochemical, Fertilizer, and Industrial projects.
• Strong knowledge of international standards (ACI, AISC, ASCE, API, Eurocodes).
• Proficient in STAAD.Pro, SACS, SAP2000, Foundation 3D, SAFE, ETABS.

Responsibilities

• Support Department Manager in leading Civil & Structural Engineering department.
• Provide technical leadership for FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC, and Brownfield projects.
• Lead analysis and design of concrete/steel structures, foundations, pipe racks, and equipment supports.
• Review and approve critical engineering deliverables, calculations, specifications, and design reports.
• Drive project delivery performance, quality, and schedule compliance.
• Interface with clients, licensors, vendors, construction teams, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Lead recruitment, workforce planning, resource allocation, and employee development.
• Mentor engineers and designers to foster technical excellence.
• Support proposal development, estimation, and business growth.
• Ensure compliance with standards, client specs, and KBR procedures.

KBR is seeking an experienced Civil & Structural Engineering professional to join our Chennai office as Chief Technical Engineer / Deputy Department Manager. The role will support the Department Manager in leading engineering execution, resource management, technical governance, and capability development across global Oil & Gas, LNG, Petrochemical, Refinery, Energy Transition, and Industrial Infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

• Support the Department Manager in managing the Civil & Structural Engineering department.
• Provide technical leadership for FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC, and Brownfield projects.

Qualifications including Required Education, Experience, & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (Master's Degree in Structural Engineering preferred).
• 25-30 years of experience in Civil & Structural Engineering, including leadership roles.
• Extensive experience in Oil & Gas, LNG, Refinery, Petrochemical, Fertilizer, and Industrial projects.
• Strong knowledge of ACI, AISC, ASCE, API, Eurocodes, and relevant international standards.
• Proficiency in STAAD.Pro, SACS, SAP2000, Foundation 3D, SAFE, ETABS, and related engineering software.
• Proven leadership, stakeholder management, and client-facing experience.
• Excellent communication, mentoring, and team management skills.
