Position: Chemist - ETP

Job Purpose:
To operate and monitor the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) efficiently, ensure proper treatment of industrial effluent, maintain required water quality parameters, conduct laboratory analysis, and ensure compliance with environmental and statutory requirements.
Job Profile:
- Operate and monitor the ETP and associated treatment systems on a day‑to‑day basis.
- Monitor the treatment process and ensure proper functioning of equalization, neutralization, aeration, clarification, filtration and sludge handling systems.
- Conduct regular analysis of ETP inlet, intermediate and treated water samples.
- Test and maintain records of important parameters such as pH, COD, BOD, TSS, TDS, MLSS, DO, ammonia and other applicable parameters.
- Ensure correct dosing and handling of treatment chemicals such as coagulants, flocculants, pH‑adjusting chemicals and other process chemicals.
- Monitor chemical consumption and maintain adequate stock of ETP chemicals.
- Identify abnormalities in ETP performance and immediately inform the ETP In‑charge/HSE team.
- Maintain daily ETP logbooks, analysis records, chemical consumption records and
- operational checklists.
- Ensure proper operation and monitoring of pumps, agitators, blowers, dosing systems, clarifiers, filters and other ETP equipment.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team for timely rectification of equipment breakdowns and process‑related issues.
- Monitor sludge generation, dewatering and safe handling/storage of ETP sludge as per company procedures.
- Ensure proper housekeeping and cleanliness around the ETP area.
- Collect samples from designated points and ensure proper sample identification, preservation and testing.
- Support preparation and maintenance of documentation required for GPCB, environmental audits, inspections and statutory compliance.
- Assist in maintaining records related to ETP performance, treated effluent quality, water consumption and waste/sludge disposal.
- Ensure treated effluent quality remains within applicable statutory consent limits and internal standards.
- Immediately report any deviation in treated water parameters and take corrective action under the guidance of the ETP In‑charge.
- Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, chemical handling procedures and emergency response protocols.
- Coordinate with Production, Utility, Maintenance and HSE departments for smooth ETP operation.
- Participate in environmental audits, inspections and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
- Assist in maintaining SOPs, work instructions, checklists and ETP operational records.
- Ensure proper segregation, labeling and safe storage of chemicals used in ETP operations.
- Perform any other environment/ETP‑related duties assigned by the management.
Specific Requirements for Chemical Manufacturing Environment:
- Understanding of effluent characteristics generated from chemical manufacturing processes, preferably including streams associated with Acetic Anhydride production.
- Knowledge of handling acidic/alkaline and chemically contaminated effluent streams.
- Ability to identify process abnormalities through laboratory analysis and operational observations.
- Knowledge of chemical compatibility, safe chemical handling and emergency response.
- Ability to work in rotational shifts, including night shifts, as required by plant operations.
Desired Profile:
- Diploma / B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Chemistry / Environmental Science with 2 to 5 years of experience in handling ETP / Wastewater Treatment in Chemical / Pharmaceutical / Specialty Chemical or similar manufacturing industries.
- Good knowledge of ETP operation and wastewater treatment processes.
- Good laboratory testing and analytical skills.
- Basic knowledge of environmental regulations and GPCB requirements.
- Good documentation and record‑keeping skills.
- Basic computer knowledge, including MS Excel and MS Word.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently and respond quickly to process deviations.
- Strong focus on safety, environment and compliance.
