Preferred candidate profile

Position Title: Senior CAD Engineer - Coolant Systems (Contract Consultant)

Target Experience: ~5 Years of relevant industry experience

Domain: Powertrain Installation, Coolant Pipes & Hoses for heavy-duty ICE platforms (Diesel, CNG, LNG, H) targeting European markets.

Role Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and execution-focused Senior CAD Engineer on a contractual basis to handle 3D routing design, 2D detailed drawing creation, and Bill of Materials (BOM) management. Operating as an independent contributor, you will turn high-level thermal architecture requirements into precise, clash-free manufacturing data. This role focuses on high-utility design deliverables, space optimization, and agile change management for vehicle cooling circuits.

You can be a right fit for the role if you have experience in handling components or sub-systems related to Engine Peripheral Systems like Coolant systems, Fuel systems, Structural design components mounted on Powertrain, Noise isolation, Air intake, Exhaust systems, Flywheels, or Flywheel housings.

We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace and encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds and experiences.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Main systems for routing include
  • Engine cooling circuit
  • Transmission Cooling Circuit
  • Retarder Cooling Circuit
  • Urea Heating Circuit
  • Cab Heating Circuit
  • 3D CAD Routing & Concept Development: Design, model, and optimize complex 3D routing for various vehicle sub systems mentioned above.
  • Mounting & Structural Packaging: Develop robust concepts for mounting arrangements, brackets, sheet metal fixtures, castings, or forging components to support the coolant lines under high-vibration heavy-duty conditions.
  • 2D Drawing & BOM Release: Generate production-ready 2D engineering layouts and detailed drawings with a flawless layout, strict adherence to global standard principles, and complete, accurate Bills of Materials (BOM).
  • Engineering Change Management: Process design modifications, handle engineering/ design change requests/notices/orders (DCN/ECN/EO/ECR), and resolve existing CAD inconsistencies or quality issues swiftly to ensure minimal disruption.
  • Clash & Spatial Analysis: Proactively perform digital mock-up (DMU) reviews, virtual packaging verification, and interference/clash checks within the powertrain envelope.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Coordinate directly with the Powertrain department, Thermal Management Engineers, and Cross-Functional Teams (XFT) to translate routing rules and boundary conditions into real physical architecture.
Required Technical Skills:
  • Advanced CAD Tool Mastery: High proficiency in CREO Parametric (specifically Advanced Piping/Cabling or routing modules). Experience in alternative automotive packages like CATIA V5 or SolidWorks is a bonus.
  • GD&T & Tolerance Stack-up: Deep expertise in interpreting complex engineering prints and applying strict Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles for reliable assembly fits.
  • Material & Manufacturing Familiarity: Practical understanding of physical properties and manufacturing limitations of sheet metals, castings, plastic mouldings, rubber hoses, and formed metal pipes.
  • PLM/PDM Systems: Strong operational knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management databases (e.g., Windchill, Teamcenter) for design tracking, variant configuration, and official CAD release documentation.

Knowledge of proprietary release system (KOLA) is optional but considered a significant advantage.

  • Agile Context: Basic comfort with working in an Agile R&D methodology framework to handle task boards, sprint goals, and changing daily task prioritizations.
Qualification and professional skills:
  • Education: Bachelors Degree (B.E. / B.Tech) or Masters degree (M.E. / M.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a closely matching technical stream
  • Experience: Roughly 4 to 6 years of solid, hands-on automotive R&D domain experience with a primary focus on Powertrain Installation, Engine Peripherals, or Cooling/Fluid System routing.
Soft Skills:
  • Action-Oriented Problem Solving: A proactive mindset to resolve spatial constraints and packaging deadlocks independently without constantly waiting for escalation.
  • Clear Functional Communication: Strong ability to explain design limitations, draft precise technical updates, and align with global/local design colleagues.
  • Multicultural Adaptability: Comfort collaborating within global engineering structures (e.g., cross-site team forums) and working across time zones effortlessly.
  • Deliverable Accountability: Sharp time-management skills to balance and complete deliverables for multiple running sub-projects concurrently to meet Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Feature (QDCFS) targets.
