Job summary

Rubiscape in Pune is seeking a Backend Engineer to design and own distributed microservices powering data ingestion, transformation, and real-time analytics across the RubiFlow and RubiSight platforms.

You will work with Node.js, Python, or Go, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Redis, Spark, and Kubernetes to deliver reliable services with a 90-day deployment cadence, strong security, and on-call reliability.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of backend engineering experience building distributed, production-grade services in Node.js, Python or Go.
• Strong command of relational database internals — PostgreSQL performance, indexing, transactions.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or a comparable message-streaming platform in high-throughput environments.
• Solid understanding of microservice design patterns and trade-offs (circuit breaker, saga, CQRS, outbox).
• Experience deploying and debugging containerised services on Kubernetes with proper resource limits and health probes.
• Security engineering instincts: OAuth2/OIDC flows, secrets management, input validation and sanitisation.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own microservices in Node.js, Python, or Go for core platform capabilities.
• Architect Kafka-based event streaming for ingestion pipelines and real-time alerts with at-least-once delivery.
• Design PostgreSQL schemas for multi-tenant SaaS deployments with security and performance in mind.
• Build REST and gRPC APIs with OpenAPI docs and contract testing.
• Implement caching with Redis to meet sub-100ms SLOs for interactive features.
• Contribute to observability with structured logs, OpenTelemetry, and Grafana dashboards.
• Participate in on-call rotations and drive reliability improvements.

Rubiscape’s backend is a distributedmicroservices mesh that ingests billions of events, orchestrates ML pipelines,and serves real-time analytics to enterprise dashboards — all whileguaranteeing the security and compliance posture that regulated Fortune 500customers demand. As a Backend Engineer, you will design and own services thatpower one or more of the six studios, working with Kafka, PostgreSQL, Redis,Apache Spark, and Kubernetes as everyday tools — not aspirational technologies.You will apply deep knowledge of distributed systems, API design, and dataengineering to achieve platform metrics that matter: 3× faster pipelines, 5×lower TCO, and production deployment in under 90 days.

Key Responsibilities

• Design,build, and own microservices in Node.js (Fastify/NestJS), Python (FastAPI), orGo that serve core platform capabilities — data ingestion, transformationorchestration, model serving, and real-time event processing.
• ArchitectKafka-based event streaming solutions for high-throughput data ingestionpipelines (RubiFlow) and real-time alerting (RubiSight), with at-least-oncedelivery guarantees and consumer group management.
• DesignPostgreSQL schemas for multi-tenant SaaS deployments, including row-levelsecurity, partitioning strategies, and query plan optimisation for analyticalworkloads.
• Build andmaintain REST and gRPC API contracts used by frontend studios and third-partyintegrations, with OpenAPI documentation and contract testing (Pact).
• Implementcaching strategies with Redis (cache-aside, write-through, pub/sub) to meetsub-100ms response SLOs for interactive platform features.
• Contributeto the platform’s observability stack — defining structured log schemas, customOpenTelemetry spans, and Grafana dashboard panels for your service area.
• Participatein on-call rotation for backend services, conducting blameless post-mortems anddriving reliability improvements to reduce MTTR.

Nice to Have

• Experiencewith Apache Spark or Flink for large-scale batch and streaming data processingpipelines — directly applicable to RubiFlow’s data foundation studio.
• Prior workintegrating LLM APIs (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic) or buildingretrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines for enterprise AI features(RubiAI).
• Backgroundin IoT protocol handling (MQTT, OPC-UA, CoAP) or time-series databases(TimescaleDB, InfluxDB) relevant to the RubiThings studio.
• Contributionto internal developer platforms, API gateway configuration (Kong, Traefik), orservice mesh implementations (Istio).

Requirements

• 4+ yearsof backend engineering experience building distributed, production-gradeservices in one or more of: Node.js, Python, Go.
• Strongcommand of relational database internals — query optimisation, index design,transaction isolation levels, and schema migration strategies in PostgreSQL.
• Hands-onexperience with Kafka or a comparable message-streaming platform (Pulsar,RabbitMQ) in a high-throughput production environment.
• Solidunderstanding of microservice design patterns: circuit breaker, saga, CQRS,outbox pattern — and the trade-offs between them in an enterprise context.
• Experiencedeploying and debugging containerised services on Kubernetes, includingresource limits, liveness/readiness probes, and horizontal pod autoscaling.
• Strongsecurity engineering instincts: OAuth 2.0/OIDC flows, secrets management(Vault/Kubernetes secrets), and input validation/sanitisation practices.
