Job summary

HOD Media - Ahmedabad is seeking a hands-on Automation Engineer to join our engineering team. You will handle PLC programming, HMI configuration, machine testing, commissioning, and customer support, with travel to customer sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Automation or related field.
• 2–5 years of relevant industrial automation experience.
• Hands-on experience with Siemens TIA Portal and PLC programming (S7‑1200/1500).
• Knowledge of load cells, dancer systems, closed‑loop web tension control, VFDs and servo drives.
• Willingness to travel extensively for customer site installations and commissioning.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.

Responsibilities

• In-house machine testing: load PLC/HMI programs and validate control logic.
• Site installation & commissioning: travel to customer locations to install and test PLC/HMI programs.
• Customer support: remote troubleshooting and fault diagnosis of automation systems.

Job description

We are looking for a skilled and hands‑on Automation Engineer to join our engineering team. The selected candidate will be responsible for PLC programming, HMI configuration, machine testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and customer support activities.

The role involves working closely with mechanical, electrical, panel, and process teams during machine trials and commissioning. The candidate will participate in in‑house machine testing, dry runs, web handling control testing, splice trials, machine commissioning, and customer support. The position also requires willingness to travel to customer sites for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and trial activities.

Key Responsibilities

In‑House Machine Testing

• Install and load PLC and HMI programs using Siemens TIA Portal.
• Perform machine testing and validate PLC control logic and sequencing.
• Conduct dry runs of motors, drives, sensors, and machine functions.
• Configure and test web handling functions.
• Test dancer position control and load cell-based tension control.
• Validate nip and roller sequencing.
• Carry out splice trials and verify sensor feedback and control logic.
• Support complete machine trials in coordination with mechanical and process teams.
• Identify automation‑related issues and implement appropriate corrections.

Site Installation & Commissioning

• Travel to customer sites for machine installation and commissioning.
• Install and test PLC/HMI programs at customer locations.
• Debug PLC programs and fine‑tune control parameters according to process requirements.
• Conduct machine trial runs and support customer acceptance activities.
• Prepare commissioning reports and trial documentation.
• Coordinate with customer electrical and engineering teams during commissioning.

Customer Support

• Provide remote and online troubleshooting support for automation‑related customer complaints.
• Diagnose PLC, drive, sensor, and control‑system faults.
• Guide customer electrical teams during troubleshooting activities.
• Analyze recurring problems and report root causes to the Senior Automation Engineer.
• Maintain proper records of troubleshooting and corrective actions.

Reporting & Coordination

• Report machine trial progress, technical issues, and commissioning status.
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical panel, and process teams.
• Maintain automation‑related documentation and reports.
• Follow project timelines and company quality and safety procedures.

Candidate Requirements

• Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Automation, or a related engineering field.
• 2–5 years of relevant industrial automation experience.
• Hands‑on experience with Siemens TIA Portal.
• Knowledge of S7‑1200/S7‑1500 PLC programming and HMI configuration.
• Working knowledge of load cells, dancer systems, and closed-loop web tension control.
• Understanding of VFDs, servo drives, and motor control.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and P&IDs.
• Willingness to travel extensively for customer site installations and commissioning.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
