Job summary

Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) invites applications for the position of Associate Professor in a medical specialty. Eligibility includes MBBS and MS/DNB/MD in the relevant subject, with demonstrated teaching experience in recognised medical institutions.

Candidates should have research publications and complete the Basic Course in Biomedical Research, along with the Basic Course in Medical Education where applicable.

Qualifications

• MBBS and MS/DNB/MD in the relevant subject as per regulations.
• Four years of teaching experience as Assistant Professor in a recognised medical institution, or five years if appointed directly as Assistant Professor in Government medical institution.
• For Armed Forces: Specialist Medical Officer with at least five years clinical experience after postgraduate qualification, plus at least three years teaching as Assistant Professor in a teaching hospital.
• Two research publications after becoming Assistant Professor, and among the first three authors; and Basic Course in Biomedical Research from a recognised medical institution.
• Shall undergo Basic Course in Medical Education if broad specialty is covered under undergraduate training.

Responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate lectures and clinical classes.
• Conduct postgraduate classes and clinical/bed-side clinics.
• Attend OPD patients during OPD slot and see inpatients and referrals.
• Attend emergencies during on-call days and oversee OT schedules for postgraduates.
• Cover duties of other Associate Professors when they are on leave.
• Submit articles to media regularly.
• Any other job assigned by the HOD.

Job description

CRITICAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Academic:

• Delivers Under-graduate student lectures and clinical classes
• Conducts Post-Graduate student classes and Clinical/ Bed-Side clinics.

2. Clinical:

• Attends to the OPD patients during his/her slot of OPD timings.
• Sees the inpatients admitted under his/her unit and also other inpatient referrals.
• Attends to the emergency patients during his/her on-call days.
• Attends to schedules of Operation Theatre, to operate and oversee the Post-Graduates.
• Covers up the duties of the other Associate-Professors when they are on leave.

3. Others:

• Submits articles to the media on a regular basis.
• Any other job assigned by the HOD.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Qualification- MBBS and MS/DNB/MD in in in the concerned subject and as per these regulations.

Teaching experience, research, and other requirements:

(a) (i) Assistant Professor in the subject for four years in a recognised medical institution

or for five years for those appointed directly as Assistant Professor in Government

medical institution; or

(ii) a Specialist Medical Officer of the Armed Forces, having at least five years of clinical experience in the relevant specialty after obtaining the recognised Postgraduate qualification in the subject, of which at least three years teaching experience as Assistant

Professor in a teaching hospital of the Armed Forces; and

(b) (i) have published at least two research publications after becoming Assistant

Professor and must be amongst first three authors;

(ii) have completed the Basic Course in Biomedical Research from a recognised

medical institution designated by the Commission; and

(iii) shall be required to undergo Basic Course in Medical Education provided their broad

specialty subject is covered under undergraduate training.

Note 1: In the specialty of Aviation Medicine and Marine Medicine, maximum of four

years experience in Flying Squadrons and in Diving and Escape training Schools,

respectively, will be considered equivalent to two years of teaching experience for becoming Associate Professor.

Note 2: A non-teaching Consultant or Specialist or Medical Officer, possessing

postgraduate medical degree with ten years of experience in at least 220 bedded

Government hospital shall be eligible to become Associate Professor of that broad

specialty and on such appointment, shall be required to undertake Basic Course in Medical Education and Basic Course in Biomedical Research within two years of the appointment.
