Job summary

GMR Group seeks a Desk Engineer for its power plant operations in Odisha. The role focuses on smooth start-up and shutdown of BTG and auxiliaries, with guidance to subordinates across boiler, turbine, switchyard, ESP, ash handling and coal handling facilities during normal and emergency conditions.

The incumbent will monitor unit performance against load schedules, grid frequency, and safety standards, ensuring efficient operation and timely decision making to minimize generation loss.

Qualifications

• BE (Mechanical) degree from a recognized university.
• 5-9 years of experience in 150 MW+ thermal power plants.
• Knowledge of plant operations, safety and energy management.

Responsibilities

• Oversee desk operation for start-up and shutdown of BTG and auxiliaries.
• Guide subordinates across Boiler, Turbine, Switchgears, ESP, Ash handling and Coal Handling Plant.
• Operate unit with reference to load schedule and grid frequency; ensure safe, reliable generation.

Job Purpose

Desk operation For smooth Start-up and Shutdown of Unit (Boiler/Turbine & Other auxiliaries) whenever required and for giving proper instructions & guidance to Subordinates of various areas such as Boiler, Turbine, Switchgears, Switch-yard, ESP, Ash plant & Coal Handling Plant for their efficient work for panel operations & site operations during normal running & plant emergency condition

Key Accountabilities

Responsibilities

Knowledge of entire generation process from fuel feeding to power dischpatch.

Knowledge & ability for safe, reliable and efficient operation of units (BTG, & BOP) by quick decision making & appropriate actions so as to provide optimum generation as per demand keeping the desired parameters within limit and reduction in Generation Loss during plant emergencies.

Responsible for smooth Start-up and Shutdown of Unit (Boiler/Turbine & Other auxiliaries) whenever required and for giving proper instructions & guidance to Subordinates of various areas such as Boiler, Turbine, Switchgears, Switch-yard, ESP, Ash plant & Coal Handling Plant for their efficient work for panel operations & site operations during normal running & plant emergency condition

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

To operate unit with reference to load schedule & Grid frequency.

Time for startup & shutdown to be maintained as per time given by OEM.

Ensuring proper utilization of resources such as water (raw water & DM water), air (instrument air & service air), auxiliary power, coal and oil (HFO, LDO & Plant Lubricants) etc. & reducing their wastage.

Ensure healthiness of all equipment of BTG Unit & BOP, defect notifications for any defects to the concerned maintenance departments and coordinate for its rectification.

Responsible for scheduled trials and routine changeover of equipment at all locations is being done.

Ensure safety of man/machine and equipment is being taken of during work through proper PTW system & isolation system.

Ensure proper logging of all critical parameters is being done at all locations by respective operators and engineers.

Ensures healthiness of fire-fighting system

Knowledge of Power Plant chemistry.

Knowledge of safety, environment and other statutory norms.

Co-ordinate commissioning/re-commissioning activities of a new system or equipment during plant overhaul.

Knowledge about Plant critical data, start-up parameters, system requirements and key machine performance characteristics.

Knowledge and understanding of tariff norms, tariff structure and grid code.

Essential Skills Managerial Skill to manage operational problem related to plant- technical and administrative.

Good Communication & co-ordination skills (for getting the job attended)

Leadership and motivational Skill for leading a big team of executives & workmen (in his shift)
