Job summary

Eaton Corporation in Chennai seeks an experienced Import Logistics professional to manage the full import lifecycle, ensure regulatory compliance, and coordinate with CHA, suppliers and freight forwarders.   • 8+ years in Import Logistics / International Supply Chain.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end import management from PO issuance to final delivery.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, freight forwarders and CHA for shipment execution.
  • Plan and track air/sea shipments to meet timelines.
  • Review import documents: invoice, packing list, BL/AWB, origin certificate.
  • Coordinate with CHA for timely customs clearance and accurate EDI entries.
  • Negotiate freight rates and monitor total landed costs to reduce spend.
  • Track shipments and provide regular MIS reports on performance and costs.
  • Manage relationships with overseas suppliers, forwarders and brokers.
  • Identify risks, implement process improvements and support ERP/SAP usage.

What you’ll do:
  • 1. End-to-End Import Management
    • Manage complete import lifecycle from PO issuance to final delivery
    • Coordinate with suppliers, freight forwarders, and CHA for seamless shipment execution
    • Plan and track shipments (Air/Sea) ensuring adherence to timelines
  • 2. Documentation & Compliance
    • Review and validate import documents: Commercial Invoice
    • Packing List
    • Bill of Lading (BL) / AWB
    • Certificate of Origin
    • Ensure compliance with: DGFT regulations
    • Customs Act & import policies
    • HS Code classification and duty structures
    • Handle import licenses and certifications if required
  • 3. Customs Clearance Coordination
    • Liaise with CHA for timely clearance of shipments
    • Verify correctness of Bill of Entry filing
    • Ensure duty payments and avoid demurrage/detention
    • Resolve customs queries and audit requirements
  • 4. Freight & Cost Optimization
    • Negotiate freight rates with forwarders and shipping lines
    • Monitor and reduce logistics costs (freight, duty, warehousing)
    • Analyze landed cost and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • 5. Shipment Tracking & MIS Reporting
    • Track shipment status and proactively handle delays
    • Provide regular updates to internal stakeholders
    • Maintain MIS reports on: Shipment performance
    • Freight costs
    • Delivery timelines
  • 6. Vendor & Stakeholder Management
    • Manage relationships with: Overseas suppliers
    • Freight forwarders
    • Customs brokers
    • Coordinate with internal departments: procurement, finance, warehouse
  • 7. Risk & Issue Management
    • Identify operational bottlenecks and resolve import-related issues
    • Manage risks like shipment delays, documentation errors, compliance issues
    • Ensure cargo insurance coverage
  • 8. Warehouse & Last-mile Coordination
    • Plan inbound movement from port to warehouse
    • Coordinate transporters for final delivery
    • Ensure proper goods receipt and inspection
  • 9. Finance & Payment Coordination
    • Validate freight and CHA invoices
    • Ensure timely duty and statutory payments
  • 10. Process Improvement & Digitization
    • Drive improvements in logistics processes and lead time reduction
    • Work on ERP/SAP systems for shipment tracking and reporting
    • Implement best practices in import operations
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain / Logistics / Commerce / Business Administration
  • 8+ years in Import Logistics / International Supply Chain
Skills:
  • Experience in manufacturing, trading, or distribution industries preferred
