Job summary

Bal Raksha Bharat in Delhi seeks an Assistant-PIU (Facilitator-Health & Nutrition) to coordinate community health and nutrition activities for children, pregnant and lactating women. The role focuses on identifying, screening, counselling, referral, follow-up and linkages with government health services, with scope for ECCD-related activities and collaboration with frontline workers.

Contract duration till 31st March 2027.

Qualifications

  • Graduate in social work or other stream from a recognised university is essential.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of NGO experience focusing on health, nutrition, maternal and child health or related work with AWCs/School/community groups/government stakeholders.
  • Good communication and community mobilization skills.

Responsibilities

  • Formation and strengthening of mothers’/caregivers groups, adolescent groups.
  • Conduct growth monitoring of under 5 year children.
  • Mobilise pregnant women to promote early ANC registration and regular ANC/PNC services.
  • Provide basic counselling on maternal nutrition, breastfeeding and essential newborn care.
  • Support identification and referral of high-risk pregnant women.
  • Promote institutional delivery, immunisation and appropriate health-seeking behaviour.
  • Facilitate linkages with ANMs, ASHAs, UPHCs and other government health services.
  • Follow up on newborns and infants requiring additional care or referral.
  • Submit monthly progress report to the Assistant Manager.

We run programmes in the remotest corners of India and urban areas in the areas of Health & Nutrition, Education, Child Protection and Livelihood & Economic Wellbeing in order to facilitate quality education, healthcare and protection from harm and abuse and life-saving aid during emergencies to children

ROLE PURPOSE

The Community Health & Nutrition Worker will facilitate access to essential health and nutrition services for children, pregnant and lactating women, adolescents and vulnerable families in the intervention communities. S/he will be responsible for community-level identification, screening, counselling, referral, follow-up and strengthening linkages with government health and nutrition services. The concerned person will also be responsible for the growth monitoring, anemia, developmental delay screening, maternal new born care, nutrition counselling, linkages with UPHCs/PHCs and ICDS, capacity building of frontline workers.

SCOPE OF ROLE

Scope: The person will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and conducting ECCD-related activities at the Centre and community levels, working closely with children, caregivers, community members, project stakeholders, and other relevant stakeholders to promote early childhood development, responsive caregiving

Context: Development

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Conduct regular household visits to identify vulnerable children, pregnant women and lactating mothers and families requiring health & nutrition support
  • Mobilise community members and ensure their participation in health & nutrition related activities
  • Formation and strengthening of mothers’/caregivers groups, adolescent groups
  • Conduct growth monitoring of under 5 year children
  • Mobilise pregnant women to promote early ANC registration and regular ANC/PNC services.
  • Provide basic counselling on maternal nutrition, breastfeeding and essential newborn care.
  • Support identification and referral of high-risk pregnant women.
  • Promote institutional delivery, immunisation and appropriate health-seeking behaviour.
  • Support health camps and community & centre based child a& maternal health activities.
  • Immunisation of children and support families in accessing missed doses.
  • Facilitate linkages with ANMs, ASHAs, UPHCs and other government health services.
  • Follow up on newborns and infants requiring additional care or referral.
  • Awareness/counselling sessions with parents/caregivers responsive care and age-appropriate child development practices
  • Assist in identifying developmental delays and facilitate referral of to appropriate services
  • Facilitate access to government health schemes and services for eligible families
  • Support awareness campaigns on anemia, IYCF, WASH & nutrition
  • Maintain beneficiary records, screening data, referral records and follow up information
  • S/he would support in document periodic progress, case studies of best practices etc of her assigned area and share with the line manager.
  • Support in collection and submission of all MIS related information and data
  • Submit monthly progress report to the Assistant Manager.
  • Responsible to achieve the desired outcome for ECCD component
  • Any other task assigned by the line manager

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Minimum 1-3 years of experience in NGO sector focusing health, nutrition, maternal and child health or at least 1 years of experience working with AWCs/ School/ Community/ Children Groups/ Government Stakeholders.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING (Strike out whichever is not applicable)

Level 1: The role holder will not have contact with children and/or young people, or access to personal data about children or young people, as part of their work; therefore a police check will not be mandatory unless the content or location of the role changes, in which case the Child Safeguarding level will be reviewed.

Level 2: Either the role holder will have access to personal data about children and/or young people as part of their work; or they will be working in a ‘regulated’ position (Finance, Monitoring & Evaluation, Legal etc.); therefore a police check will be required.

Level 3: The role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in programmes; or are visiting programmes; therefore a police check will be required.
