About the role
The Assistant ManagerProduction runs day-to-day operations of the EPP (Expanded Polypropylene) moulding line. The role owns output, quality, safety and cost on the shop floor, and leads supervisors, operators and contract workforce across shifts to meet customer delivery schedules.
Key responsibilities
- . Production planning and execution
- Plan daily, weekly and monthly production as per the sales and dispatch schedule.
- Allocate machines, moulds, manpower and material to meet targets.
- Monitor output, cycle time, OEE and capacity utilisation; report shift-wise MIS.
- . EPP process control
- Control steam chest moulding parameters: steam pressure, temperature, cooling and cycle time.
- Oversee bead pre-treatment / pressurisation, moulding, drying and post-moulding operations.
- Achieve target part density, weight and dimensions; reduce rejection and scrap.
- 3. Quality
- Work with QA to meet customer specifications, especially automotive and packaging customers.
- Lead root cause analysis and CAPA for customer complaints and internal rejections.
- Maintain IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 documentation, control plans and work instructions.
- . Manpower management
- Lead shift supervisors, operators and contract labour; plan shifts and manage attendance.
- Train operators on SOPs, safety and multi-skilling; maintain the skill matrix.
- . Maintenance and mould coordination
- Coordinate with maintenance for preventive maintenance, breakdowns and mould changeovers.
- Reduce downtime and setup time (SMED).
- Safety and housekeeping
- Ensure EHS compliance, boiler and steam safety, PPE use and 5S on the shop floor.
- Cost and continuous improvement
- Control steam, power, raw material and consumable costs.
- Drive Kaizen, Lean, TPM and productivity improvement projects.
- 8. Reporting and coordination
- Coordinate with PPC, stores, QA, maintenance and dispatch.
- Present production KPIs and improvement status to management.
Hands-on experience in EPP, EPS, EPE or other polymer moulding (steam chest, injection or blow moulding).
Working knowledge of IATF 16949 / ISO 9001, 5S, Kaizen and Lean manufacturing.
Proven experience managing a large shop-floor team, including contract workforce.
Good with MS Excel and ERP (SAP or similar) for production reporting.
Preferred
- Experience supplying automotive OEMs or Tier-1 customers.
- Exposure to boiler and steam systems, mould changeovers and TPM.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or similar problem-solving training (D, Why-Why, Fishbone).
Personal attributes
- Strong leadership, discipline and decision-making on the shop floor.
- Clear communication in English, Tamil and Hindi.
- Willing to work in shifts and handle urgent production requirements.
