Job Title: Assistant Designer – Landscape Architect

The Assistant Designer – Landscape Architect plays a pivotal role in supporting the design, documentation, and coordination of landscape architecture projects across various scales. This position involves assisting senior designers and project leads in developing concepts, producing high-quality drawings, enhancing visual communication, and contributing to technical detailing. The role requires a creative mindset, strong technical foundations, a keen sense of aesthetics, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate demonstrates initiative, takes ownership of tasks, and is eager to grow into a more advanced design role.

Key Responsibilities
1. Conceptual & Schematic Design
  • Assist in the development of early conceptual ideas, design themes, and landscape strategies.
  • Prepare zoning diagrams, functional layouts, and site planning alternatives.
  • Support creative brainstorming sessions by producing hand sketches, quick 3D massing, and visual ideation.
  • Translate high-level design direction from senior staff into refined conceptual drawings.
2. Graphic Design & Visualization
  • Develop high-quality 3D models to explore spatial configurations, materiality, and landscape character.
  • Produce photorealistic or stylistic renderings using rendering software to communicate design intent.
  • Create diagrams (circulation, grading, planting, phasing), exploded axonometrics, and illustrative plans.
  • Prepare visually appealing client presentation decks, boards, and marketing materials.
3. Detailed Design & Technical Documentation
  • Assist in preparing detailed design drawings, including planting plans, hardscape layouts, and landscape details.
  • Draft accurate and organized CAD drawings such as plans, sections, elevations, and construction details.
  • Support preparation of tender documentation, bill of quantities (BOQs), and specification notes.
  • Coordinate with senior landscape architects to ensure drawing accuracy, consistency, and project standards.
  • Incorporate feedback from internal and external reviews into revised design packages.
4. Site Research, Analysis & Data Collection
  • Conduct comprehensive site analysis including environmental, climatic, topographical, soil, and drainage studies.
  • Analyze local vegetation, landscape character, and contextual elements to inform design decisions.
  • Participate in site visits to document existing conditions through measurements, photographs, and sketches.
  • Compile case studies, benchmark examples, and material research to support design proposals.
  • Work closely with architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants, and external specialists to coordinate design information.
  • Support the preparation of materials for project presentations, client meetings, and design reviews.
  • Assist in tracking project timelines, deliverables, and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain organized digital files, layers, and naming conventions according to project protocols.
6. Quality Control & Standards
  • Ensure all drawings meet office drafting standards, accuracy, and graphic quality expectations.
  • Conduct self-checks and cross-checks on drawings before final submission.
  • Help maintain internal libraries of materials, planting databases, and design templates.
7. Professional Growth & Knowledge Development
  • Stay updated with emerging trends in landscape architecture, climate-responsive design, and sustainable practices.
  • Enhance knowledge of plant species, horticulture, soil conditions, and ecological design strategies.
  • Improve proficiency in advanced design software and workflow techniques.
  • Participate in internal knowledge-sharing sessions and training workshops.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture; Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • 4-5 years of professional experience in landscape design or related fields.
  • Strong design portfolio showcasing conceptual clarity, graphics, and technical competence.
  • Understanding of landscape materials, construction basics, planting design, and spatial design principles.
Software Skills

  • AutoCAD – Advanced drafting, precision layouts, and documentation
