Job summary

Aranca is seeking an Assistant Manager - Equity Research in Mumbai/Gurgaon to lead independent equity research and generate market ideas. The role requires deep familiarity with both domestic and international markets and the ability to develop credible, investable views across multiple sectors.

You will contribute to client-facing insights, write concise market commentaries, and actively engage with senior investment professionals.

Qualifications

  • MBA Finance or equivalent from a reputed institute.
  • 5+ years of genuine buy-side equity research experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent, bottom-up and thematic equity research across emerging and international markets with a focus on idea generation.
  • Actively contribute new investment ideas and refine an internal idea universe of ~250 companies.
  • Develop and articulate differentiated views on macro, country, sector, and company developments.
  • Understand key business drivers, KPIs, valuation frameworks, and risk factors across sectors.
  • Maintain knowledge of markets including India, Brazil, Chile, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and more; cover multiple sectors with rapid upskilling.
  • Produce high-quality market commentaries; participate in client calls and internal meetings.
  • Engage with clients through intellectual contribution and maintain proactive engagement even during slow periods.

Position: Assistant Manager - Equity Research
Location: Mumbai/ Gurgaon
Reporting to: Senior Manager - Investment Research & Analytics

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Investment Research and Idea Generation

  • Conduct independent, bottom-up and thematic equity research across emerging and international markets with a focus on idea generation rather than static deliverables.
  • Actively contribute new investment ideas and continuously revisit and refine an existing internal idea universe of ~250 companies.
  • Develop and articulate differentiated views on macro, country, sector, and company‑specific developments.
  • Quickly understand and assess key business drivers, KPIs, valuation frameworks, and risk factors across diverse sectors.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of emerging and international markets, with familiarity across - India, Brazil, Chile, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Poland, Romania, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia.
  • Cover a broad and flexible set of sectors, including but not limited to - Utilities, Energy, Banking & NBFCs, Consumer Discretionary, Auto Components, Mining, Metals, and Coal. While deep specialization across all sectors is not expected, the ability to rapidly get up to speed and form credible, investable views is essential.
  • Stay updated on market trends and macroeconomic events impacting investment strategies.
  • Knowledge of coding language is preferred (VBA, Python etc)
Writing & Communication
  • Produce high-quality market commentaries that demonstrate clarity of thought, balance, and investment judgment.
  • Writing style must align with buy-side expectation i.e., insightful, concise, and opinionated rather than descriptive.
  • Participate actively in weekly client calls every and client’s internal Emerging Markets team meeting
  • Be comfortable in open-ended, idea-driven discussions, often without rigid agendas.
Client Engagement
  • Engage with the client primarily through intellectual contribution rather than administrative or commercial interaction.
  • Operate effectively in a setting where the client is largely unreachable via email and responsiveness is driven by idea relevance and quality.
  • Maintain proactive engagement even during periods with no immediate deliverables

  • Success measured by idea relevance, insight depth, and consistency of contribution, not volume of output
Responsible for developing strong working relationships with team members (research analysts, assistant managers) to ensure they are sufficiently motivated and connected with you
  • Identifying their skill sets as well as areas of strengths and improvements
  • Charting career path for members and provide guidance and coaching
  • Addressing people issues (conflicts, discipline, behaviour etc)
Learning and Development:
  • Responsible for identifying training needs of team members
  • Coordinating with training SPOCs in developing new training modules, deliver existing training modules and process improvement initiatives
  • Identify self-learning and growth opportunities
  • Research insights contribution: Support Aranca Investment Research team’s efforts in developing inhouse research insights through articles, blog updates, infographics and other forms through own contribution as well as encouraging/coordinating team members to contribute through their content writeups
POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Functional Requirements:

  • MBAs (Finance) from top tier institutes, CFAs, CAs
  • 5+ years of genuine buy-side equity research experience.
  • Strong confidence in forming and articulating independent investment opinions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High intellectual curiosity and ability to thrive in an unstructured, thinking-intensive environment.
  • Proven ability to engage senior investment professionals as a peer.
  • Strong project management, time management and multi-tasking capabilities
