The Assistant Manager – Transport is responsible for managing day-to-day transportation operations, ensuring timely vehicle placement, optimizing fleet utilization, controlling transportation costs, and maintaining high service levels. The role involves coordinating with customers, transport vendors, warehouses, and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless logistics operations while adhering to safety and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily transportation operations to ensure timely pickup and delivery of shipments.
- Coordinate with transporters, fleet owners, and drivers for vehicle planning and placement.
- Optimize route planning and fleet utilization to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
- Monitor shipment movement and proactively resolve transportation-related issues.
- Ensure adherence to delivery schedules, transit times, and customer service commitments.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with transport vendors and negotiate competitive freight rates.
- Monitor transportation costs and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, road safety norms, and company policies.
- Review transporter performance through KPIs such as on-time delivery, vehicle availability, transit time, and service quality.
- Prepare transportation MIS reports, dashboards, and performance analysis for management review.
- Coordinate with warehouse, procurement, finance, and customer service teams to ensure smooth operations.
- Handle customer escalations and implement corrective actions to improve service levels.
- Support implementation and effective utilization of Transport Management Systems (TMS) and digital logistics tools.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the transportation operations team to achieve operational excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- MBA in Supply Chain or Operations is preferred.
Experience
- 5–8 years of experience in transportation, logistics, fleet management, or supply chain operations.
- Experience in 3PL, logistics, manufacturing, retail, e-commerce, or FMCG industries is preferred.
