Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in application engineering, technical services, or technical sales within steel plants.
• Strong hands-on exposure to flat steel products and manufacturing processes.
• Metallurgy knowledge including HR, CR, and coated steels, formability and weldability.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Application Engineer to serve as the technical authority for Flat Steel products and drive customer-centric technical solutions across key industry segments. The ideal candidate will combine strong metallurgical knowledge with customer-facing technical sales expertise to support product adoption, solve application challenges, and increase share of business across assigned accounts.

This role involves approximately 60% field engagement and 40% office-based work, working closely with customers, sales teams, manufacturing units, and product stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Support & Application Solutions

• Act as the technical expert for Flat Steel products and applications.
• Recommend suitable grades, thicknesses, coatings, and specifications based on customer requirements.
• Diagnose and resolve application failures such as:
• Forming cracks
• Coating peel-off
• Welding defects
• Corrosion issues
• Dimensional rejections
• Conduct technical presentations and specification workshops for customer design, quality, and procurement teams.
• Develop and promote best practices across customer manufacturing processes.

Product Development

• Identify and execute opportunities for:
• Grade upgrades
• Right-gauging initiatives
• Coating substitution
• Import substitution
• Value Analysis & Value Engineering (VAVE)
• Manage customer trials from planning through successful commercial approval.
• Prepare application notes, specification sheets, and grade equivalency documentation.

Business Growth

• Analyze customer steel consumption and identify opportunities to increase share of business.
• Support Key Account Managers during technical evaluations and specification approvals.
• Drive new application development within existing and emerging markets.
• Perform competitive benchmarking and position solutions effectively.

Complaint Resolution

• Handle technical complaints end-to-end.
• Conduct joint inspections and root cause analysis.
• Implement corrective actions and ensure documented closure.
• Collaborate with plant quality, sourcing, and processing teams to eliminate recurring issues.

Knowledge Management

• Create technical content including:
• Application guides
• Grade selection tools
• Troubleshooting FAQs
• Best-practice manuals
• Support knowledge sharing initiatives for customers and field teams.

Desired Candidate Profile

Education

• B.E. / B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• Metallurgy specialization preferred.

Experience

• 15+ years of experience in:
