Job summary

The growth catalyst for your is seeking a hands-on Accounting and Compliance Leader in Pune’s Balewadi office. You will own books, close year-end, and ensure statutory deadlines are met, while mentoring the accounting team in a hybrid setup.

You’ll oversee GST, TDS, income tax, audits, and internal controls, driving process improvements and client onboarding support across SME engagements.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of experience in a relevant accounting/compliance role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (B.Com).
• Strong knowledge of Indian GAAP and direct/indirect taxation.

Responsibilities

• Review accounting and bookkeeping for assigned SME clients, from recurring compliances to year-end finalisation.
• Ensure clients meet fiscal and statutory filing requirements on time and accurately.
• Coordinate statutory, internal and donor audits with external auditors.
• Own GST, TDS, and income tax compliance and track regulatory changes.
• Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, allocating tasks and tracking performance.
• Drive automation and efficiency to reduce non-value-added admin.
• Support client onboarding, handovers, and system implementations.

Own accounting and compliance for a portfolio of SME clients at a boutique consulting firm founded by Chartered Accountants — hands‑on, high‑trust, and hybrid, in Balewadi, Pune.

This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who enjoys owning the numbers end to end. You'll run accounting and compliance for a set of SME clients — reviewing their books, closing the year cleanly, and making sure every statutory deadline is met — while building and mentoring the team that works alongside you.

The firm is a boutique consulting practice founded by Chartered Accountants, so you'll be surrounded by people who care about getting the fundamentals right. It's a place to deepen your technical craft, take real ownership, and shape how the accounting function runs.

What you'll do

• Review the accounting and bookkeeping for assigned clients — recurring compliances through to year‑end finalisation.
• Make sure clients meet every fiscal and statutory filing requirement, on time and to the letter.
• Manage statutory, internal and donor audits, and coordinate with external auditors.
• Own compliance across GST, TDS and income tax, and keep on top of regulatory change.
• Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies.
• Lead, mentor and develop the accounting team — allocate work, set goals, and track performance.
• Drive automation and efficiency, cutting out non‑value‑added admin.
• Support client onboarding and handovers, and pitch in on system implementations and ad‑hoc projects.

What we're looking for

• 5–10 years in a relevant role, ideally a mix of public accounting and private industry (social‑sector exposure a plus).
• A bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (B.Com) from a recognised university.
• Core accounting under Indian law, with a working command of direct and indirect taxation.
• Strong Indian GAAP knowledge and confident financial reporting.
• Solid project management — comfortable running several client engagements at once.
• Excellent written and spoken communication, and the judgement to influence business decisions.
