Role Purpose
The technical workshop and product manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, technical performance, and continuous improvement of a specialist jewellery rework operation. The role leads a team of 7 highly skilled professional covering polishers, quality control and selected watch rework, ensuring that quality issues are accurately assessed, repairs and rework are executed to the highest standards, and operational priorities are delivered in line with business needs. This person will act as the key technical authority for the rework shop, working closely with supply chain planning, operational teams, manufacturing plants in Italy and Switzerland and external suppliers to maintain quality, capability, compliance, and operational efficiency. The role will involve travel to Italy and Switzerland of about 10% of your time.
Operational Leadership:
- Lead the daily operation of the rework shop, ensuring workload, priorities, and service levels are effectively managed.
- Supervise, coach, and develop the team
- Allocate resources to meet changing business priorities and urgent quality requirements.
- Partner with the supply chain planning to align rework priorities with business and customer needs.
- Monitor output, turnaround times, quality performance, and team productivity.
- Own inventory management for the rework business ensuring 100% accuracy.
- Lead the training program for all team members, while looking ahead for future skill development.
- Deliver monthly KPI report
Technical Expertise and Quality:
- Assess jewellery quality issues, determine root causes, and define appropriate repair or rework solutions.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance on polishing, finishing, repair, and quality standards.
- Ensure all repaired and reworked pieces meet brand, technical, and customer quality expectations.
- Support problem-solving on recurring defects and partner with internal teams to reduce repeat issues.
- Act as a technical escalation point for complex rework and quality concerns.
Manufacturing and Supplier Collaboration:
- Work closely with manufacturing plants in Italy on technical issues, training needs, process improvements, and recruitment/new hire support.
- Build effective relationships with predominantly Italian suppliers and external partners.
- Manage supplier and contractor performance with agreed SLAs
- Support the development of local supplier where possible
Engineering, Maintenance, and Compliance:
- Take responsibility for maintenance of all workshop equipment, including preventative, reactive, and proactive maintenance.
- Oversee commissioning, testing, validation, and calibration of machinery.
- Maintain asset history, maintenance records, and documentation control systems.
- Ensure CE-marked equipment is appropriately managed and compliant.
- Working in conjunction with facilities to maintain local exhaust ventilation systems, fume cupboards, and utilities including softened water and RO water criteria.
- Oversee chemical management processes and ensure safe handling, storage, and usage.
- Ensure machinery safety training is delivered and maintained for relevant employees and users.
- Lead health and safety risk management activities within the workshop environment such as but not limited to Risk Assessments, Safety Walks, Incident/Accident reporting.
Continuous Improvement and Strategic Development:
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across quality, safety, efficiency, cost, and capability.
- Develop and implement SOPs, work instructions, and technical standards for the rework shop.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, equipment improvement, and capability enhancement.
- Support strategic development of the rework function, including future capacity, skills, and technical roadmap.
- Lead Recruitment, onboarding, and technical training plans to build a high-performing team.
Experience
- Demonstrated expertise in the jewellery sector, specializing in workshop operations, including jewellery repair, polishing, quality control and basic watch repair services.
- Proven experience assessing jewellery quality issues and determining effective repair solutions.
- Experience leading or supervising technical or production teams in a specialist workshop environment.
- Experience working with manufacturing plants and suppliers, ideally including Italian partners.
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of jewellery manufacturing, finishing, polishing, repair, and quality control standards.
- Knowledge of machinery maintenance: preventative, reactive, and proactive.

Preferred Qualifications
- Degree, diploma, or technical qualification in Jewellery and Quality or a related discipline.
- Formal health and safety qualifications are advantageous.
- Experience working in an international Jewellery environment is preferred.
- Italian language skills would be beneficial.
