Job description

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the technical upgrade of client's hosted Charles River Investment Management Solution (CRIMS) environments.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the technical upgrade of client's hosted Charles River Investment Management Solution (CRIMS) environments. This is a hands on technical role working across enterprise applications, databases, cloud infrastructure, integrations, and deployment processes. You will work closely with client technology teams, internal engineering teams, and other stakeholders to prepare environments, execute upgrades, troubleshoot technical issues, and support successful production releases. An important part of the role is continuous improvement. In addition to supporting individual client upgrades, you will help identify opportunities to automate and standardise activities, reduce manual effort, improve troubleshooting and validation, and make the overall upgrade process more efficient, repeatable, and reliable. We are not looking for expertise in every technology from day one. We are looking for someone with strong technical fundamentals, good troubleshooting skills, and the ability to understand and learn complex enterprise systems.

Responsibilities
  • Support the planning and technical execution of CRIMS platform upgrades across client environments.
  • Assess application environments, infrastructure, databases, configurations, integrations, and technical dependencies to support upgrade readiness.
  • Support installation, configuration, deployment, testing, production cutover, and post-upgrade validation activities.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues across applications, databases, cloud infrastructure, connectivity, integrations, batch processes, and data.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and work with internal engineering, infrastructure, database, client, and vendor teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Support development, test, UAT, and production environments throughout the upgrade lifecycle.
  • Develop scripts, utilities, automated checks, and tooling to improve the efficiency and reliability of upgrade activities.
  • Identify repetitive or manual activities and contribute to automation and standardisation of the upgrade process.
  • Improve environment readiness checks, deployment procedures, technical validation, monitoring, and post-upgrade verification.
  • Develop and maintain technical runbooks, upgrade procedures, troubleshooting guides, and supporting documentation.
  • Capture lessons learned from client upgrades and help incorporate improvements into future upgrade processes.
  • Contribute to improvements in CI/CD, deployment automation, configuration management, and operational processes.
  • Communicate technical issues, dependencies, risks, and progress clearly to internal teams and client stakeholders.
What We're Looking For & Qualifications

We are looking for a hands-on systems engineer with approximately 5–8 years of relevant technology experience in systems engineering, application engineering/support, DevOps, production engineering, database engineering, or a related technical role.

The Successful Candidate Should Have
  • Experience supporting complex enterprise applications and production environments.
  • Experience participating in application upgrades, migrations, deployments, or major software releases.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues across multiple components of a technology environment.
  • Good SQL and relational database skills, with experience using technologies such as SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, DB2, or similar.
  • Experience supporting enterprise applications hosted in a cloud environment, or a good understanding of cloud infrastructure and services.
  • Some hands-on experience with scripting and automation, using PowerShell, Python, shell scripting, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, source control, and deployment tooling such as Jenkins, GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of production support disciplines including incident management, root-cause analysis, release management, and change control.
  • Ability to work effectively across application, infrastructure, database, operations, and engineering teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and an interest in using automation, tooling, and process improvements to make technical delivery more reliable and efficient.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience with Charles River Investment Management Solution (CRIMS) or another investment management, portfolio management, order management, or trading platform.
  • Experience within investment management, asset management, capital markets, or financial services technology.
  • Familiarity with investment management concepts or workflows such as orders and trades, portfolio management, positions, compliance, securities/reference data, or investment accounting.
  • Experience supporting technical upgrades, migrations, deployments, or releases of complex enterprise applications.
  • Experience supporting enterprise applications in Azure, AWS, or another cloud environment.
  • Experience using scripting, automation, or tooling to improve deployment, upgrade, or operational processes.
  • Experience working in a client-facing technical environment or coordinating technical activities across multiple teams.

Above all, we are interested in candidates with strong technical fundamentals, an analytical approach to troubleshooting, and the ability to learn complex systems quickly. Previous CRIMS or investment management experience would be an advantage, but we also welcome candidates with transferable experience from other complex enterprise technology environments.
