Collins McNicholas Recruitment seeks an experienced Technical Manager (Engineering) to lead the engineering function at a precision engineering and manufacturing operation in Shannon.

You will drive manufacturing engineering, process improvement, and maintenance/facilities, reporting to the CEO and supporting growth with technical leadership across projects and improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years in manufacturing/engineering environments with leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to deliver measurable improvements through engineering projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the manufacturing engineering function for a precision operation.
  • Drive process optimisation, Lean initiatives and OEE improvement.
  • Lead NPI, process transfers, engineering changes and technical projects.
  • Provide senior technical support for complex issues including CAPA.
  • Oversee tooling, fixtures, equipment and process validation.
  • Collaborate with Production and Quality to improve efficiency and capacity.
  • Support plant infrastructure and facilities, including utilities and HVAC.
  • Manage external contractors on engineering and facilities projects.
  • Lead engineering change management and site expansion efforts.
  • Ensure activities meet HSE, quality and regulatory requirements.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager (Engineering) to lead the engineering function at a well-established precision engineering and manufacturing operation in Shannon.
Reporting to the CEO, you will provide technical leadership across manufacturing engineering, process improvement, engineering projects and maintenance/facilities, helping to drive operational performance and support the company’s continued growth.

Key Responsibilities: (full job spec on request)
  • Lead and develop the manufacturing engineering function, with responsibility for a team of 3–4 initially.
  • Drive process optimisation, continuous improvement, Lean initiatives and OEE improvement.
  • Lead NPI, process transfers, engineering changes and technical projects.
  • Provide senior technical support for complex engineering and production issues, including root cause analysis and CAPA.
  • Oversee tooling, fixtures, equipment and process validation.
  • Work closely with Production and Quality teams to improve efficiency, reduce waste and increase capacity.
  • Support the reliability and development of plant infrastructure and facilities, including utilities, HVAC, compressed air and electrical systems.
  • Manage external contractors, consultants and service providers on engineering and facilities projects.
  • Lead engineering change management activities where required.
  • Support facility upgrades, expansion projects and the ongoing development of the site.
  • Ensure engineering activities meet relevant HSE, quality and regulatory requirements.
What We’re Looking For
  • Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years’ experience within a manufacturing/engineering environment.
  • Strong experience in precision machining, metal processing or advanced manufacturing.
  • Proven experience leading engineering projects and delivering measurable improvements.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean/Continuous Improvement and structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Previous experience leading technical teams and working cross-functionally.
  • Experience with maintenance, facilities or plant infrastructure would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of utilities such as MV electrical, compressed air, HVAC or oxygen systems would be beneficial.
