Job summary

Corlann – West Region is seeking locum relief support workers to join Beo Adult Services in Knocknacarra and related areas. The role covers residential, respite, day settings and community services with flexible area assignments to meet service needs.

The successful candidates will support people with intellectual disabilities to live a life of their choosing, develop personal plans, and promote independence while working within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Candidates must have a good general education. A recognised qualification appropriate to the Field of intellectual disability is an advantage.
• QQI Level 5 or higher is desirable.
• A minimum of one year’s experience of working with individuals with an Intellectual Disability is desirable, full training will be provided.
• The candidate should have knowledge of person-centred planning.
• A full clean manual Driving Licence is an essential requirement; Class D1 may be needed.
• Fluency in verbal and written English is essential.
• Demonstrated flexibility, communication and teamwork skills are required.

Description And Vision Of Services

Corlann – West Region provide a community based, person centred service focusing on the needs and abilities of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The vision of the service is to support people with intellectual disabilities to achieve a full and valued life in their community, in line with best practice both nationally and internationally. Working in partnership with each person supported by services, we aim to create opportunities for people supported by services to have ordinary life experiences and to be closely connected to family and friends. We are committed to supporting people to live a life of their choosing.

Beo Adult Services provide a range of community-based services including day, residential, respite, community outreach, family support and a range of multidisciplinary support services. People are supported in day centres, supported employment, social and micro enterprises, training and education and these can be in groups or individualised. People are supported in residential settings in their own homes in the community individually and in groups. We wish to create opportunities for people who use our services to have valued social roles in their communities and to form friendships.

Location:

Beo Adult Services (Knocknacarra). Staff allocation could be either within residential/respite/day settings or in community services. The appointee will initially commence working in one particular area of the Beo services and this work location may change due to future service needs.

The Role:

The role of support worker is to assist the people who use our service to meet their day to day needs, reach their full potential, promote independence and to be an active part of their the local community. We support them to further their education (both internal and external to the Service) and to build their independent living skills if this is their choice. A major focus of the Support Worker role is to assist and support people who use the Service with development of their own Individual Plan and supporting them to achieve their own Personal Outcome goals. The Support Worker is also responsible for all aspects of personal care which includes supporting individuals with their meals, personal hygiene and other related aspects of physical well-being as required by the individual.

Qualifications/Experience/Skills:

• Candidates must have a good general education. A recognised qualification appropriate to the Field of intellectual disability is an advantage. QQI Level 5 or higher is desirable.
• A minimum of one years’ experience of working with individuals with an Intellectual Disability is desirable, full training will be provided.
• The candidate should have knowledge of person-centred planning.
• A full clean manual Driving Licence, which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish Roads and use of your own car is an essential requirement. It may be necessary for the appointee to obtain a Class D1 Driving Licence (if not already in possession of one). Assistance will be given towards this purpose of obtaining a class D1 licence, should it be required.
• Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post.
• To be able to demonstrate flexibility, communication and team working skills together with an enthusiasm for the post.

Working Hours:

Up to 39 hours per week based on a 7 day/night duty roster. Successful candidates will be called if and when required and will be required to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends, public holidays, night duty, sleep-ins and irregular in order to meet service demands.

Corlann’s model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours in order to ensure the provision of high quality services for each individual.

Annual Leave:

23 days per annum pro rata.

Remuneration:

€ 34,881 x 11 increments - € 47,624 (Max) pro rata per annum. Long Service Increment (LSI) €48,434 pro rata per annum is payable after 3 years on the maximum of the scale. Additional payments will be made for weekends, public holidays and night duty when worked.

Tenure:

It is proposed to set up a locum panel of Support Workers who will be called if and when required to cover for staff on various leave within the Services.

Probation:

A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. Employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probation period may be extended at the Employer’s discretion.
