Job summary

Corlann – West Region is seeking a temporary, part-time Support Worker at Rosedale School, Woodlands Centre, Renmore, Galway. The post supports children and adults with intellectual disabilities, working under Team Leader/Deputy Team Leader guidance.

The role requires 60 hours per fortnight on a 5-day roster, with potential for varied hours including weekends and sleep-ins. Salary scales start at €34,881 with increments up to €47,624 pro rata, in the Department of Health Care Assistant scale.

Qualifications

• Good general education is required.
• QQI Level 5 or higher is desirable.
• A full clean manual Driving Licence is desirable.
• Minimum six months experience in a school, healthcare or childcare setting is desirable.
• Fluency in verbal and written English is essential.
• Some basic IT skills are also essential.

A panel may be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent temporary Support Worker appointments may be made over the next 6 months.

DESCRIPTION AND VISION OF SERVICES:

Corlann – West Region provide a community based, person centred service focusing on the needs and abilities of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The vision of the service is to support people with intellectual disabilities to achieve a full and valued life in their community, in line with best practice both nationally and internationally. Working in partnership with each person supported by services, we aim to create opportunities for people supported by services to have ordinary life experiences and to be closely connected to family and friends. We are committed to supporting people to live a life of their choosing.

Location:

Rosedale School, Woodlands Centre, Renmore, Galway.

Rosedale School is managed in partnership by Corlann – west region and the Department of Education and Skills. The children attending Rosedale School are aged between 3 and 18 years of age. Staff work collaboratively to support children who present with a range of complex support needs including some children with significant medical support needs.

Qualifications/Experience/Skills:

• Candidates must have a good general education. A recognised qualification appropriate to the field of intellectual disability is an advantage. A QQI Level 5 or higher is desirable.
• A full clean manual Driving Licence, which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads is also desirable.
• Candidates should have a minimum of six months experience working in a school, healthcare or childcare setting. Experience working with people with an Intellectual Disability and behaviours that challenge is desirable.
• Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post.
• Candidates must be able to demonstrate flexibility, communication and team-working skills, together with an enthusiasm for the post. Some basic IT skills are also essential.

Working Hours:

60 hours per fortnight based on a 5-day roster.

The successful candidates may be required to work to accommodate an integrated day service, with weekend work, some split duty hours, public holidays, evening/night duty and sleep-ins to meet service needs.

The Corlann model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures quality and person centred planning system requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each person supported.

Remuneration:

Department of Health Care Assistant (01/06/2026) salary scale - € 34,881 x 11 increments - € 47,624 (Max) pro rata per annum. Long Service Increment € 48,434 pro-rata per annum is payable after 3 years on the maximum of the scale. Additional payments will be made for weekends, public holidays, sleep-ins and night-duty when worked.

Salary quoted is based on a 39 hour working week. The successful candidate will be granted incremental credit subject to satisfactory verification of previous public sector service.

This post is Temporary, part-time, fixed term for 2 years and pensionable.

A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probation period may be extended at the Employer’s discretion.
